i might be wrong, but I think it's just easier for him that way: Let's say he draws frames 1 and 5 first, then he can use both as a reference to know where to place frame 3, if that makes sense. It especially looks useful when he animated the backgrounds. He just has to draw 2 frames that are very far apart, and then fill in the gaps by using them as references instead of drawing them in chronological order.
