Another issue with this episode; why would kids still be laughing about Iggy in bunny pajamas months later? Real kids would laugh it up and forget about it after a few weeks and move on to the next funny thing.

Weeks? Please they didn't even have proof, at most this crap would have lasted a day or two before someone questioned how they even knew.
@DoctorDrinkX1010 жыл бұрын
tgsachris Agreed, you'd be surprised how kids (and even teenagers) can forget about stuff like that... I mean, once a teenager at my school beat a teacher over the head with a chair until he was in a coma... after 2 days, no one was talking about it... I kid you not. Although later, I found out the student was sent to a mental ward and the teacher went to work at another building after his recovery.

DoctorDrinkX10 Some jackass at my school sent a death threat to, well actually it wasn't clear who since, they didn't tell us, but whoever it was, they sent the local military stationed at a nearby base to arrest him, they blocked off the school for 4 hours (he was caught whithin minutes in class) and people talked about that, for as long as it was on the news then no one cared anymore. (May seem like over kill but, death threat + no less than 4 major military bases here in Jacksonville + understaffed police = sometimes the military respond to shit like that)

tiakpark Its a bit shady since, again they didn't tell us exactly what he did but, from what I heard the guy who sent the threat thought it would make the news if he sent a death threat to a local politician, and that it would be funny for some reason, and they traced the threat to the school. It is protocol for dealing with such threats, they treat them all as if the sender is a terrorist fully intent and capable of doing what they said. (Im not sure who usually deals with those kinds of calls but I dont see why the police couldn't do it, besides being understaffed)

I've been thinking about it, but I think I know how this episode could have been saved somewhat. 1: Have Arnold unintentionally tell Sid and Stinky. It puts Arnold slightly in the wrong, but it makes what follows feel more fitting. Instead of being punished for something he never did, he's being punished for something he partially slipped. Such as, he says he saw someone in bunny pajamas, and then Sid and Stinky realize it has to be Iggy. 2: Have the reaction of the school kids more obvious. If we're supposed to have Iggy mad then we should see why, see him actually getting ridiculed. It shouldn't be as long a period either; maybe have it last a week which is probably when the frustration would logically be the highest. 3: There's a few options for the end. One of my preferences is that Iggy realizes his mistake and while Arnold's being humiliated he puts on his own pajamas and rushes downstairs to join Arnold, apologizing to Arnold and insisting to the others that Arnold is the cool one, willing to do this much for a friend. Maybe even admitting that the pajamas have sentimental value and that he doesn't want to be ashamed anymore. Cheesy enough, but it saves their relationship and in the end maybe Iggy can learn a lesson in not putting what people think in front of a friendship. 4: Finally, when Arnold shows off the bunny pajamas towards the end have it just be a group of the kids, which would be more realistic. Not a news crew and his Grandfather.

As horribly painful as this episode is... It really does portray a realistic situation. You can be innocent, and others be at fault, but you get the short end of the stick. Those who really did wrong, can come out on top, without consequences. And some people just aren't forgiving. Arnold is a humble and noble character. Probably the best character I've seen on Nicktoons. But even he has a breaking point. Iggy didn't take an eye for an eye. He was only embarrassed at school. Arnold got publicly humiliated, while being aired on TV. So yes, this episode ultimately sends a bad message. But at the same time, it sends the message, that not everyone is gonna forgive you. sometimes people are going to get away with the wrongs they do. And you have to know when to quit.

Believing that karma is a thing that exists is even worse. Not taking care about your problems because you believe they will be solved on their own makes for a very miserable existence. The episode would have been better just by showing a realistic solution to the problem at the end. For example, the characters could have realized the situation wasn't as bad as they thought it was, and ended it just by apologizing to each other.
@shadowlinkbds9 жыл бұрын
I may like Hey Arnold, but I can also agree that this was a bad and cruel episode. What is worse is Arnold didn't deserve any of the crap that happened. He didn't spill the beans and didn't actually betrayed Iggy (it was Sid and Stinky who guessed and found out by accident) and instead of them getting punished it was the innocent Arnold who does. It's like a criminal getting away with a crime and a poor innocent takes the blame for it. Fuck this episode!
@ThomasNCookieMonster9 жыл бұрын
***** Although I don't think Sid and Stinky getting punished was *completely* important to the story, I actually agree with you. If Sid and Stinky hadn't been shown to feel remorseful, only to then not care the very next moment, them getting off scot-free wouldn't have been *as* bad. It still would have been bad, yes, but we wouldn't necessarily be *as* angry at them. But the part that bothered me the most was of course the fact that Arnold was laughed at by a bunch of people who he had been nothing but nice to, which shows that how cruel the world is, laughing at you even if you didn't do anything to deserve it. As much as I hated the "Foster's" episode, "I Only Have Surprise for You", at least Mac had (arguably) provoked his friends into laughing at him by going berserk on them (even if it *was* in self-defense). But then comes the fact that even *before* Mac went berserk, they all conspired against him without *any* provocation whatsoever. Needless to say, the twist ending to *that* episode only serves to show how *pointless* the whole thing was. Back to "Arnold Betrays Iggy", it was just stupid how Sid and Stinky were never punished for what they did, for the reasons I've mentioned above. Also, might I add that if karma would just punish more people who have *instigated* the situation, we wouldn't have so many vigilantes taking matters into their own hands, only to get punished themselves (as shown in the "Arthur" episode, "Arthur's Big Hit"), and thus, the world would be a better place.

Every time this episode had an opportunity to do something good with its story, it completely shoots itself in the foot. The biggest problem, however, is that the ending could've been done *WAY* better. Here's how I would have done it: Have Arnold stand up for Iggy at one point when he's being made fun of and have him ask the others how they would feel if an embarrassing secret about them was let out and that's what makes Iggy realize he was wrong to be mad at Arnold and he forgives him, and then everyone else forgives Iggy. Then we have a nice satisfying conclusion where Arnold still learns about how important it is to not let embarrassing secrets out. There. Episode fixed.

I went to Hey Arnold! Wikia and this is what they gave me: Thousands of fans, critics, and even Craig Bartlett himself hate this episode and call it one the worst episodes in the series (if not, the worst) because it has a sad ending, Arnold gets unfairly humiliated, Iggy, Stinky, and Sid were huge jerks, and nobody stood up for Arnold. Therefore, this episode rarely airs anymore. Bartlett was so angry at the writers and directors that he made them publically apologize for making this and never make an episode with Iggy again. It last aired in 2004 against Bartlett's wishes and never aired again. Many even want this episode banned. However, on Febuary 2014, this episode aired after 10 years and everyone, fans old and new still pamm it.

The sad part is, people will actually ridicule you just based on gossip and rumors. It happens a lot. Especially if the person is unpopular and doesn't fit in to begin with. They want to believe it because it gives them an excuse to bully that person and have other people bully them too, so they feel self-important. The difference in this episode is that the rumor IS actually true, and Sid and Stinky know it because Arnold is not the type to lie, and Iggy was seen as cool before then. It was juicy gossip because it ruined their image of him. It makes me wonder if Sid and Stinky were secretly jealous of Iggy and wanted to knock him down because they themselves weren't considered "cool."

Yeah especially at the very end when Arnold looks at Iggy in disgust as he walks away. That's got to be the first and last time Arnold had ever silently disowned someone in the whole series which is saying a lot considering Arnold is the friendliest guy on the show. As soon as I saw Iggy get up from his stupid lawnchair calling out to stop Arnold, I knew he fucked up. And just like that it's over with no resolution whatsover. Pretty tragic in hindsight though I never did like Iggy so whatevs. This is one part of the series in which you know Arnold's probably going to end up repressing as a memory.

People do not like this episode. It's not difficult to see why: 1) Characters who were far more antagonistic get away with their bullshit whereas more innocent characters like Arnold get some kind of horrible "Comeuppance". 2) The sad ending leaves both less antagonistic characters completely fucked over. And now one of them is not only unpopular, but begging the other for forgiveness. 3) If Arnold was so hellbent on keeping Iggy's secret, why did he clue Sid and Stinky in with laughter and vague details about his state of dress? Not only is this episode depressing, it's poorly written. And with that said, after this episode, Iggy himself doesn't seem so innocent because, first of all, if he's so innocent, why does he choose not to believe Arnold (A proven straight shooter) didn't do it out of sheer madness and spite over his precious ruined reputation and, second, why does Iggy only try to stop Arnold from embarrasing himself after he hears Sid and Stinky flat confess to leaking the secret. All this episode proves is this Iggy is spiteful and full of himself and, it goes without saying, but Arnold is a lot better off without him as a friend.

ah, finally, a chance for me to rant about this episode. I always hated this horrible one for the longest time. I'll share my reasons here. First, Iggy doesn't want Arnold telling people he wears bunny pajamas, which is understandable. Then, after only Arnold laughing and saying a few thinks, Stinky and Sid happen to guess it. I mean, where did that even come from? Why would someone even think about bunny pajamas, I mean is that just commonly thought of as an embarrassing thing in Hey Arnold? Is there some rule that says if someone wears bunny pajamas, that is the most unxool thing they could do? Then, Arnold even tells them it was not, but they still go on about it being true, as you said. I mean, how does what Arnold said even "Prove" that to be true? So then, the two of them decide, instead of respectfully keeping his secret, they decide to not even consider Iggy's feelings and tease him about it. They know how wrong it is, and yet they act like assholes and just go ahead and do it. It makes me just so angry at those two for their actions. Arnold then tries to tell Iggy that they only guessed and he did not tell them, but Iggy, the jerk he is, goes for months without forgiving him. If Arnold is constantly asking to believe him and is also giving things to hm and doing things for him, then maybe he's telling the truth? Even if he wasn't just forgive him and move on. If he's not going to forgive Arnold after all that, then my advice is: Arnold, he's not worth being your friend. He's being mean and you should just move on. So then Iggy agrees to forgive him if he walks out into the street in bunny pajamas. Which people are there to film, and as MrEnter said, that's stupid. Instead of doing it, again, maybe he should just end his friendship with Iggy. Then he walks out, and I must say, whenever I saw this part, I almost cried. It was so much unnecessary torture to Arnold, and it was like one of the hardest things to watch. Afterwards, guess what Arnold does, he ends his friendship with Iggy. Finally! So all of what he did was basically meaningless then, since they're still not friends anyway.What a terrible episode. I am glad I was not the only one to hate it. Even Craig Bartlett himself agreed.

I also really hated the episode "Full Moon" where Harold, Sid, and Stinky moon Principal Wartz. Wartz doesn't know who mooned him because they were wearing disguises or something. All he knows is that Arnold witnessed the whole thing and demands that Arnold tell him who the culprits are. Arnold refuses to "snitch," so Wartz gives him detention. Wartz threatens to put a black mark on Arnold's permanent record if he doesn't say anything, and right when he's about to mark it, Harold, Sid, and Stinky burst in and confess because they feel guilty that Arnold got in trouble because of them. Apparently the moral is to never report a crime or you'll be a no-good snitch. I know it was just a harmless mooning, but it's the principle of the thing. This show is for kids, and it's teaching kids to conceal the wrongdoings of others.

Believe it or not,there is one episode of Hey, Arnold were,in my opinion, the moral is even more mess up. It's "Full Moon", on that episode Sid, Stinky and Harold show their butts to the principal and run. The principal don't catch then neither does knows who they were, so he gets Arnold, who knew who did that, and tries to convince him to expose who did this but Arnold denies because "He is not a snitch". Arnold get punished for not cooperate for several days but still don't say who did it because "he is not a snitch". In the end, the three boys fell guilty for Arnold and confess what they did and get Arnold off the hook and the episode ends with the three planing yet another prank with the principal. First of all, let me explain what is wrong with the moral with that episode: I know most love this episode and that it tries to pull that "Arnold always does anyhing for his friends", but in that situation, it's that what children at their homes should do? NO! It is right to stand up for your friens, but what they did was wrong, the real right thing to do was to Arnold to understand that even though they are his friends that what hey did was wrong and that they deserve to see the consequences for their actions. The moral were almost like "Hey kids,if you see one of you best friends commiting a crime, don't do anything about it! Even if that creates a problem to you, never do anything! He is your friend and as a friend you should be his little toy! Don't worry, in the end he will do the right thing...or not! Whatever, just don't be a snicker! Snickers are eeeeeevil!", look, in the end Sid, Harold and Stink felt guilty and confess for the sake of Arnold. In real life, that would happen? NO! In real life, your friend that did the wrong thing would be glad that he didn't get caught, would glad that you got punished instead of him, would be glad to do more wrong things in the future because he would know that you always would cover up for him and get punished on his behalf. In other word, he would step on you and would look forward to step on you even more in the future. The tough think to do in that case would be saying the true even though they were his friends, not cover up because he is afraid to lose their friendship. If they get mad at him for telling...well, maybe they weren't their friends after all.

Thanks for reminding me that good shows like this can have terrible episodes. Even as a kid, seeing Arnold going out in the outfit was heart breaking, not because it was the bunny outfit but mostly the case of blaming someone that didn't deserve it. Still, the message could’ve been better communicated. Iggy strung Arnold along by offering him forgiveness in exchange for chores and favors, only to deny him forgiveness after he’d already gone to all the trouble.

Helga off screen felt so guilty for laughing at Arnold in the pajamas she cried then angrily confronted Iggy and she personally would mess him up for what he did to Arnold

The reason that Iggy was wearing a bunny suit late at night was because Arnold had actually discovered his secret bunny-man fetish, which he had at the time believed he could enjoy in private while his parents were away. After that incident was over, Iggy was an unfair asshole because he also JUST HAPPENS to be screwed up in the head and experiences difficulty in recognizing the concept of remorse, possibly due to a mild form of sociopathy, and extreme narcissism.

Iggy: “Arnold I am so sorry” Arnold: “apology denied” Iffy: “what? Denied? You’re the most understanding guy on the planet! What happened to you?” Arnold: “we’ve been friends for years, and you decided to doubt me in less than a minute that’s what happened” Iggy: “I made a lapse in judgement Arnold” Arnold: “one that lasted a good number of months and literally put me on the news” Iggy: “ARNOLD PLEASE! I CAN’T EVEN BEGIN TO FACE HOW AWFUL I WAS” Arnold: “you’re gonna have to” Iggy: “please, give me a chance to make this up to you” Arnold: “you’re right maybe I should give you a shot at redemption? That is what I’m known for isn’t it? And know something? Maybe I might one day, but not now. Now if you’ll excuse me I have a broken chair that’s more reliable than you”

Another one of those episodes were the bad guys don't get their comeuppance and the good guy gets punished in the end. It's like It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown all over again.

Another primary example of how even some of the best of classics can have terrible episodes. That's one thing I appreciate about this guy. He's not like those nostalgia fanboys who keep saying everything old is good and everything new is terrible.

Hated that episode. Hated hated hated hated HATED that episode. The whole premise was not believable in the slightest. Furthermore, the Iggy character did not even appear prior to that episode, and I don't think he ever had a speaking part. Therefore no background on the character's personality. What was the whole point of the episode? Just to shoehorn in the Iggy character? Ridiculous.

I think the duo guessing the secret is defensible. Arnold's reaction to them blurting it out is a clear "How did you know that?" look and then he got defensive that that wasn't the case. That's one part done right, but it only makes the subsequent blaming of Arnold worse. Especially since they don't act on this fact until the last second change of heart by the character they spent painting as an A-hole.

I find it funny that they're going to laugh at Iggy for wearing bunny pajamas, but not the kid who's named STINKY. You have no room to laugh at someone else with a name like "stinky".

Iggy and Porygon have this in common. Both starred in an infamous episode of their respected series and both never appeared in their shows again. The difference being that Porygon isn't hated, he just didn't appear in the Pokemon anime again because the creators were afraid he might give the viewers bad flashbacks.

What I'm trying to wonder is why did Iggy even wear the bunny pajamas in the first place? I mean if he thinks it's so embarrassing and would taint his rep, why wear them anyway? No one compelled him. He had the decision to just simply put on something else. That's pretty obtuse of him. That's like showing a heavy aversion towards a certain kind of food and then eating it in private for no apparent rationale at all.
@muvdafukupouttahere9 жыл бұрын
+Terry Morgan I was just thinking that too. What reason would he wear something he didn't like at all? If he didn't like it, why wear it?

+Terry Morgan Because every "cool kid" has some "dark secret" that they don't want to get out, because they are so fucking dramatic and believe that if that secret got out, people will start to think less of them. And I guarantee you that those "people" aren't true friends, but kiss asses that only suck up to them for whatever reason.
