If people liked actually liked Tinker Bell being an asshole, they would dismiss the direct-to-video movies as character derailment and saying that Disney loves destroying their characters and point to her in the same league as TLJ!Luke Skywalker and Fat Thor.

@@HydraSpectre1138 Thing is she got derailed pretty fast. In the original movie, and some the general Disney cartoons she was a one dimensional character. The literal explanation was due to her size she could only hold onto one emotion at a time. But then she became the mascot, used in a few Disney promo's and shorts, eventually given her own movie series. By that time the only thing the same was the general appearance and even then she had her sexuality toned down with a longer dress and what not. It was an odd change and due to having a sister I saw more than a few of those movies... and they basically went like the Barbie movies. She had very little personality of her own, most of it custom built to fit the plot of the current situation. Oh and a friend for every situation as well to cover more negative traits they don't want to give her like greed, jealousy etc.

Not to mention that what Musical Hell (aka Diva) pointed out around the beginning of 2017 was that in the climax of this overpraised animated atrocity, it was underwhelming because the father of Marianne and Dawn/possible future maternal grandfather of the Bog Prince (had the movie not epically bombed at the box office for being this annoying/sexist and it’s time to say the main reason why) the Fairy King thinks only men can fight.

And at least, Triton make music return in his Kingdom after Ariel found the music box he gave to Athena in the third movie. The old man was a jerk by putting anyone who whistle or who's having fun in PRISON and by removing the ONLY THING his wife loved. @@ladypool1404 While The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning is my least favourite instalment because of how grouchy he was throughout the majority of the movie making the movie miss the point of the franchise by making it anything but fun-filled although that was not at the beginning or the end (say what you want about The Little Mermaid 2, but at least it felt more like it could fit into the series that is Disney’s The Little Mermaid), you have a very good point of how he luckily reformed at the end (seriously, it was worth the wait!!) while the Fairy King, on the other hand, is so mean-spirited (he’s one of the most underhated Disney parents) that he’s one of the main reasons why ElectricDragon505 had every right to give Strange Magic his Seal of Garbage to the point of even going as far as to consider it to be George Lucas’s worst works since The Star Wars Holiday Special and up to the ranks of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (neither version of the TV series since they are both epic, just the movie) by only giving them 7/27 points (10/30 if AniMat gave 0/10 ratings).

Ironically enough, the only time I've come across a 'love potion plot' where it's both done well and the character using it is likeable is in a song called "Love Potion Number 9". I think the idea is that the subject uses a love potion on *himself* so he acts as a brash extrovert and it still bites him in the end when he kisses everything on impulse and eventually kisses a cop.

I always prefer using the 'love potion' plot for either a villain who wants to use it on a person who is clearly not interested in them, but the villain refuses to take no for an answer and will do anything to get the person or perhaps a parent character who wants their kid to go out with a person they want them to marry against their kid's own will, consent and desires (Which Shrek 2 has done this pretty well), or someone who tries it on anyone they might have a shot at, but they learn it's a bad idea (Which one episode of MLP G4, as well as Rick and Morty actually does this well), mainly the former because it makes much more sense.

I would love for a reconstructed version of the love potion trope. as in "it is kinda like an aphrodisiac" between people who already love each other. between people who only one loves each other , if the affected one dislikes the person they are seeing by effect of love potion, at worst they would genuinely "review the target" and then tell the target why they dislike them in a civil way. if neutral, islike "the potion just made the affected one consider the idea of 1 date. anything else, the one who drank the potion is in their free will to reject the other". if they affected already liked the one they see already, well classical lvoe potion effect. and by the way, they are 100 percent aware of who casted the love potion it would be way more interesting to reconstruct old tropes

To be fair, the Bog King was supposed to be ugly. Everything else about this movie was just wrong. The only fairy tale movie with modern pop songs that worked was Shrek. The reason is because Shrek was a parody of fairy tale movies, specifically the ones made by Disney. Also, can we talk about the reason why George Lucas made this movie? George considered Star Wars an adventure movie for boys, so he wanted to make an adventure story for girls. A movie with the worst written male characters, the most clinched female characters, and sends the message that love is the most important thing in a woman’s life is what George considered more fitting for girls than Star Wars.

This isn't the only piece of media with a positive opinion of love potions from a good aligned character. I still remember in Harry Potter when Molly Weasley said that she got together with he husband through the use of a love potion. Edit: I was told to edit my correction up here since people only read header comments, so here: "Ok I found it, and it was a bit different than I remembered. Apparently in Prisoner of Azkaban she was telling Ginny and Hermione about how she brewed a love potion as a girl and they all giggled about it. There wasn't actually any mentioned who she used it on or even if she did use it on someone. I apologize for being misleading, due to misremembering."

Juke Box Musicals aren't always bad. Sometimes they pick out their songs perfectly to fit the mood of the movie. Book of Life is a perfect example. The music is picked really well in it. It mostly uses snippets rather than the full song, but they fit right where they need to, like Manolo singing Creep by Radiohead to accentuate how out of place he feels, or the goofy love songs his friends sing because they're not good at helping him with romance. On top of that, two original songs that are gorgeous.

The faerie king isn't bright either. He says his daughter must marry so there will be a king. He'd know that can't legally happen. When a woman is the heir to the thrown, she becomes queen, but her husband stays a prince. This is because a king is a higher authority than a queen. He doesn't have the authority to make political decisions. He can order around the palace staff, run a charity, and try to persuade his wife to make decisions he likes. In the end, it's the queen's call though. His job is to be her husband, father to their children, and accompany her to public appearances. An example of this is Queen Elizabeth II and her recently deceased husband Prince Philip.
