Animating My Character! - Pineapple Oscar Dev Log #2

Pineapple Oscar is a spunky fruit who can't stop thinking about the 90's. My goal is to create a 3D platformer collect-a-thon style of game, inspired by titles like Super Mario 64 and A Hat in Time.
In this log I set up an animation controller for Oscar and added some more functionality to the camera.

What is that weird game with the alpaca? Never seen that one. A tip for vertex painting: by defaul it creates this really colorful but mostly unhelpful hot to cold gradient. In the blender settings, you can find an option to change the weight paint colors to a custom gradient. If you enable it, it comes with a black to white gradient which is much easier to work with. Pure white means influence is 1(or 100%) and black is no influence. If you use this, I recommend you set the viewport to unshaded so that you only see the gradient, not the textures.

Pleased to see more progress on this 90's dude. Do you know how to assign vertex groups in edit mode? Bones will move groups with the same name as them. This is how I approach game rigging, and I bet it's easier and less taxing on the game engine.

Yeah! I made sure to assign groups for parts of his body like his arms and legs, which will only be affected by the arm/leg bones and not the spine bones. But I was getting frustrated with his shirt because it needs to be affected by both the spine and his appendages. Eventually Ill figure out how to add it back in 👍

I love the character design! Maybe exporting each action separately will help you avoid the animation bug and keep things more organized.
