Gotta respect the reasoning. She went from sculpting digitally to sculpting with another media. That's actually really interesting. Edit: Looking back on my original comment I think I used media since I was told in secondary school that you can use media in this way as Arts Media are seen as materials and tools used by an artist. Like carving media can be things like marble stone etc. I know people say medium as well, is medium just the preferred word? Actually sort of interesting to think about.

You know how good and unique Talan’s movement is? I was playing Kingdom Hearts the other night, and just the frames they used for the loop of Tarzan running were so distinctive I knew they must have based them on the movie. He does not move like any other character in the game, just like Tarzan in that film doesn’t move like any other character up to that time, that mixture of actual gorilla movement and board sportsmanship is so unique. I don’t know if it’s THE best but it’s certainly an underrated gem; probably the last of the “Renaissance” or “New Golden Age” films, unless Mulan came later which I do not think it did

@@avidadolares Particularly, Disney was always big on using live motion and actual people and things to get a feel for how something might translate into movement in the animation. That's why they'd bring in actual animals to be observed by the artists for things like Lion King, or have someone actually posing or working out the movements while the artists draw, or even artists acting something out in the mirror so they can see how the body moves. It's especially important when you're trying to sort out how to do things like how a very human movement is going to work on a non-anthropomorphic animal (that little bit of her doing the dramatic, flourishing bow is from her work on Zazu, IIRC).

You could say the same for artists across most mediums. Technological advancements are handy and make sense on the business side, but there will always be a line where those handling the money will cross without a second thought. They don’t understand or value that artistic flourish within the brain that sparks big ideas. Large companies that deal in any sort of art are essentially trying to recreate lightning in a bottle, doing it on a schedule, and selling it to whoever they can convince it’s actually that real special thing.

Uhh huh…no. Just no. Disney has produced so many duds in 2D, and a lot of exceptional 3D movies too. The writing quality isn’t tied to the animation. Ppl who worked on Tangled were literally apart of the 2D Disney Renaissance. The animation is still good, and every film aims to do something new with new technology. And it’s not like Disney hasn’t reused its 2D animation too. Point is, the downward trend is less to do with animation and more to do with the executives in charge. It’s not a coincidence that Disney has been canceling or changing some of its best content in recent years.
@ItsAK9

@BelBelle468 Never said writing quality was tied to animation. Writing is almost always super important to whether a movie is enjoyable or not. Great animation with a bad/boring story doesn't = a good movie. Animation is a tool of expression. If you enjoy 3D animation that's great for you! The best 3d animation I've seen is the 3d that is trying to express itself as more 2d. The art style is very important to me, and majority of 3d projects have that very "basic pixar" style that really makes the actual well animated pieces few and far in between in the movies and harder to see. Not saying 2d animation doesn't have its duds, but there was almost always soul and passion in a lot of the movies because of how traditional it was and the massive amount of work being put in. Also, bad animation is just bad animation. Yeah of course higher ups and pay really does and will always affect the quality of their workers, but it doesn't change what is being seen by the audience.

"do you agree with her reasoning's" Her reasoning: "They changed from one art form to another which influenced my interests to change so I followed those new interests instead." What exactly is there to agree or disagree with? Disney made a choice that suited their interests and she made a choice that suited hers.

My great grandmother could have drawn for Disney, shes a great artist. They had asked her herself to work for them but at the time her husband didn’t want her too bc he was the worker and they had 8+ kids. Always think about how amazing it would have been if she got that opportunity

Wish should’ve been 2D as a callback for their 100th anniversary, or at least a proper mix and not just a lazy filter over 3D models that tried and failed to emulate the Spiderverse style

It’ll probably be more like into the spiderverse. Most of the guys I know doing 2D are switching to blender and other apps to make 2D animations in 3D. Heck , I loved into the spiderverse once I got used to it lol It was definitely Cloverfield level jarring at first 😂

I think the key to Disney's hand-drawn animations being such a higher quality not just in visual aesthetics but in music production and story/character building was time. It took tremendous time and effort to produce those movies but i think it gave time in a sense where you had to take the time in order for it to look right and feel right on screen. also, i think they actually cared about producing a story, rather just pumping something out to get revenue.
