The medley from Kids on the Slope is certainly a bizarre combination of tunes BUT it all makes sense in the context of the series because each of those pieces are all significant to the characters and the story in different ways so the medley is brilliant.

I had the same reaction. Had he watched the show first, he would have understood why those pieces are included in the medley. Similarly "baccano" means a din or racket which often appears in the orchestration he chose. For an amazing big-band styled soundtrack, I recommend Honma Yusuke's score for the 2007 anime Oh! It's a terrible anime with paper-thin characters and a contrived idiot ball plot that actually tries to make you sympathize with sexual assault at some point. The drama is only possible because everyone involved is acting like a complete moron. If they were written like normal people, seventeen-year-old or not, this would happen for 90% of the "plot": A: I have this problem with the implications of what you said and/or did. B: Oh, no. That's not what I meant, at all. Sorry though. A: Oh, okay. The show is only good when the amazing music is playing, and that's something they just don't even do in like half of the episodes.

It's not Jazz, but the music for Akira is amazing and well worth a listen by itself! Incredibly rhythmic and atmospheric at the same time

Kids on the slope is one of my all time faves and so so underrated! The version played in KOTS of Lullaby in. Ireland is my fave rendition 😩😩! Nodame Cantible is also a really great music anime.

"A bunch of crazy stuff happening at the same time" is indeed an apt description of Baccano! as a show. Also, "baccano" is an Italian word that means a ruckus, a mess, so, spot on.

One of these days I hope to see you doing a video on Bernard Herrmann and the themes to Vertigo, Taxi Driver and North by Northwest. That classic 60's movie soundtrack sound. It's old enough that most people don't know it I think.
@JohnSpawn13 жыл бұрын
Nice suggestion, although I should point out that none of the films you listed are from the 60s. Vertigo and North by Northwest are films from the 50s, Hitchcock's greatest decade; Taxi Driver is a quintessential 70s film.

That color while transitioning (around 1:40): a veeery good example is a horn line in the end of Scary Pockets' cover of "harder better faster stronger", arranged by Jacob Mann.

I think it would be kind of cool if you gave your thoughts on the connection of music and storytelling. Like what are some scenes that moved you because of the music?

What I find really interesting is how much the commentary of these tracks lines up with the vibe of the scenes or shows. Like without ever seeing these shows he nails the core part of what these pieces are meant to represent. Thunderbolt in particular stands out for me as the music has so much to do with the central conflict

Would be awesome if you reacted to the Kids on the Slope anime itself. It's about a classical pianist that learns to play jazz with his drummer friend and I think you'd enjoy it and subscribers would love to hear your thoughts on the story.

Thunderbolt's Soundtracks is phenominal, the main theme of season 1, Dreaming Girl in me? Magnificent stuff. Unicorn also has some phenomenal music by Hiroyuki Sawano, the Unicorn theme, Banshee, Psycho Field, or my personal favorite, Mobile Armor. I'm also a big fan of Trails of Cold Steel 2's Blue Destination. Its not jazzy, but my god does it use the piano well. I'd honestly say its my favorite song right now.

I just wanted to say my musical knowledge is nothing more than hearing music and saying "I like that" or "I don't like that" however since finding your channel I've really enjoyed watching you explain things I didn't know existed and with such passion that I'm spellbound and 100% hooked. Your love for music has opened up a deeper appreciation for music that I enjoy. I may never be able to play or understand music like you do but I enjoy seeing you light up with excitement and explain it to me. So thank you for sharing your passion with all of KZbin and I.

i'm blessed to have blood blockade battlefield(BBB) introduce me to the beautiful world of Japanese Anime. I was in middle school or so when I first watched it and fell into it right away. Later on in my life, I started to listen to Jazz and drawn to animes like kids on the slope, Baccano and so on. It just feels so magical when I found that the very first anime BBB also has many jazzy things going on in the soundtrack. feels like dots in my life are connecting together. Salute to all the people behind these magnificent ARTS. They brought me a lot of joy💗

Sakamichi no Apollon(Kids on the Slope) is LITERALLY the anime that got me into jazz Edit: Cowboy Bebop got me into Jazz as a genre, but Sakamichi got me into “real”Jazz. (“Real” as in created irl, not for a soundtrack. Both are great. Just didn’t know how to express that)

Kids On The Slope is how I got into jazz! The soundtrack is just incredible, and that medley you listened to is based off a few of the songs the story gave special importance to, its a great series!

@gaurdianzero293 жыл бұрын
@@hbanana7 first of all love your user name because that is one of my nicknames irl (my first name starts with a b and my last names is Hanna) lol. Anyway I have yet to finish it, but it is basically about a world where all art is banned and there are a couple of kids going around trying to bring it back. It got away from me so I haven't worked on it in a while. That being said I do have another novel I did finish writing/self published called The Bard. I think my main character in that novel would appreciate jazz if he was in the world. Thank-you for your question!
@hbanana73 жыл бұрын
@@gaurdianzero29 that sounds so cool!! Art being banned sounds like there’s no freedom of speech! And there are so many ambiguity in what makes a piece “art.” I’ve had this handle for a long time. Lol. Thank you.
