I don't like the formulation "they are not worth it", but I get the idea : noone should have to change themselves to appeal to someone else. The fact that the crush doesn't reciprocate the effort or the love just mean they aren't interested and this choice should be respected. Not running after someone who doesn't love one back is both self-respect and respect to the crush.

For real though! In anime the character will keep on persisting to get their crush like them, To the point where it’s unhealthy, some what obsessive, and just not appreciation of their personal space and feelings. In real life you should always respect each other’s personal space and choices. Edit: the craziest thing I have done for my crush is nothing, ‘cuz they don’t exist and never did.
