To me I saw it as a complete upgrade to an already heart wrenching series of events, with the only real downside being it was less obvious that the mother was going through the lengths of prostitution for her daughter, along with her jumping off of a building being a lot more hard to notice.

I think they wanted to draw attention away from it and focus more on the tragedy of the situation, but if you pay attention super carefully during the scene you can tell that her suicide is implied

@@Masoon24 no it’s because in anime, suicide is a big no no. So instead of visually showing it, they try to show you what happened with her falling and the thud.

@@PersonInaTrashcan I agree. This anime is already walking on thin ice as it is, considering that this is aired on Japanese public TV network. If your anime is too out of the advertisers' comfortzone, no public TV network would be willing to air it. And suicide is always touchy for Japan, not just due to how conservative their public media can be, but also how high their IRL suicide rate in recent years is. I think the anime team has walked that fine line fantastically so far with a lot of the riskier scenes of DanDaDan.
