I watched the 99 anime after I saw all of the 2011 one. I think the new one was made thinking most of the viewers had already seen the 99 one, so they were in a bit of a hurry to get to the content that hadn't been animated yet. They cut a couple other things out of the first arc. Kind of a tangent but I also think they made Leorio a lot campier right off the bat in the remake

This is actually why I prefer the 1999 version of the anime. It wasn't totally faithful to the manga but had the proper pacing and also introduced fillers that actually provided more character development especially to Kon (early chapter and Gon's return to Whale Island), and also the other Hunter candidates when they get stranded on an Island with a Ship serving as a hotel. Also Leorio's flashback while trapped by a plant during the Hunter's race shows his motivation in getting more money. The 2011 anime basically rushed everything until around the end of Greed Island.

When the Hunter Exam finally ended, it actually felt like a freaking journey. There's an air of melancholy when they finally say goodbye to each other (albeit temporary). You can feel like they went through a lot (because they actually do lol). Because of the added character developments for most of the cast, you are actually emotionally invested in each of their own journey. One of the reasons also that the 1999 version feel intimate is because of its great use of atmosphere, not only of color, but the soundtrack as well. You will always feel emotional whenever the harmonica rendition of the opening started to play. And it has been a standout among the soundtracks as well.

It's not about Kite, it's about his relationship with Gon. And by not establishing that relationship in 2011 anime, it didn't make sense why Gon lost his mind and literally sacrificed himself just to avenge him. Being "cool as fuck" isn't reason enough to give up your life for someone you've just met. It was like, 'How dare you kill that person I've met last week, that supposedly met me when I was a baby! grrrr'. It felt extremely forced, and I thought they did the whole arc, just for the "cool anime rage" moment and an unnecessary drama. But now that I know that Kite was a similar figure to Gon as Shanks is to Luffy, it makes sense why Gon's reaction was so extreme. So, it was absolutely necessary to mention that.

That's what I did, the only problem is that I never quite get used to the new voices, Gon and Hisoka's voice actors in the 99 version were perfect for the characters (which easily can be just unconscious bias on my part); but I am glad I did that because the Yorknew Arc of the 99 version is one my favorite arcs of every anime I have seen, it just wouldn't had been the same without that beautiful animation.

I really enjoyed kites role in HxH. Everything about his character was awesome to his ‘Lucky Slots’ to his group of members he is allies with. I really like the part where he scolded Gon for making him kill the mother bear because Gon did not stay out of its territory. I watched the 1st episode or 2 of the old anime and dropped it for no particular reason, then came back years later to new adaptation. The moment I saw Kite in the first chimera ant episode I had the most vivid eureka moment I’ve ever had and I realized exactly who Kite was. That moment where I connected the dots was incredible, and in the short few episodes I saw Kite he became my favorite character in HxH, partially thanks to my broken watch order of HxH

There was a commentary channel that discussed how Gon’s failure to save Kite mirrors how the bear’s father attacked him in the woods. Gon wanted to be a hunter, but he also vowed to protect and not be helpless like he was in the woods. When he failed and Kite was killed, it triggered him because it felt like he had not made any progress in his quest for power.

It was in the original anime. The one done in early 2000. It was a part of his aunt test.. His aunt did not want him to leave the island. Gave him a test that she thought was impossible That's why he was fishing for that big fish at the beginning. He meet Kite. KIte save him from a bear. He tells Gon he's looking for his master. Ging Freecss then Gon say that's my dad. then they talk about him. Shows him Ging Freecss hunter license. Kite gives Gon his dad's hunter license. And then leave the Island. They took out a few more things. They took out parts of the Hunter exam.

i feel like people misunderstand gon's character. gon is a hypocrite, and that is the main part of his writing. throughout the series gon never had anyone he knew actually die. even though kite wasn't his best friend or anything, he still had a personal connection with him. he went through the whole series surrounded by people dying, and he pretends like he cares, but is best friends with an assassin who murdered people all the time. kite was the first one who he actually cared for. plus, one of the main reasons why it messed him up so bad was because he thought he was directly responsible for kite's death. do you guys even think about the series and the characters before saying it's bad writing? gon is a flawed character, and that's how it's supposed to be.

For me this was the main point why Gon's freaking out and his rage scene got me all emotional. His bond with Kite was so deep... One if not the best anime rage scenes ever imo but it needs the backstory and understanding of how deep their bond was (and Gon's personality) to have the full impact. Kite was his surrogate father, his mentor/teacher he saved his at their first encounter and ultimately even sacrificed himself to save Gon (and Killua).And Gon couldn't so anything about it... it broke him.
