the thing is though loads of these have a bunch of obscure chinese allusions which only people with fairly good knowledge on ancient chinese works and idioims would understand, which really changes the lines and actions a lot -- they generally use it to encode lovey dovey stuff in censored dramas. When rewatching some of these bls a second time with better understanding of these random allusions it really improves the watch experience a lot

Well, I love the word bromance, I think it describes shonen perfectly. I think the point here is that bl romance is not made clear enough in the chinese media (for obvious reasons) so it looks like a regular shonen with bromance involved. Like Naruto 😂
