～をおいて means nothing other than x examples from the video: このプロジェクトの責任者は彼をおいて他にいない。 Nobody other than him can serve as the project manager. 科学を専攻するなら、あの大学をおいて他にはない。 There is no better place to major in one of the sciences than this university. also means without, "if you don't count x", excluding, leave/leave behind also can be used in the sense of "leaving negative feelings behind" e.g. 信頼をおいている There are a few sentences from jisho dott comm which use 距離をおいて to refer to "at a (long) distance" or "keeping a distance"
