Spoilers for Persona 5 I think the reason the Pancake line became a meme is that it is such a one off line and yet it is somehow remembered by Morgana and Ren so they can realize that Akechi is the traitor. It’s such a stupid thing to make them realize it and I think that’s what made it so funny.

Whenever I'm watching a new person play the game for the first time, and they get to that part about Morgana talking about pancakes, and if the streamer or lp'r doesn't catch that it was only Morgana who said the word 'Pancakes' and Akechi heard it, I start flipping out and get real excited. I love Akechi anyway, and most people just seem to think I love that he loves pancakes, but really I'm just spamming 🥞 in the chat/comments because it means the player didn't catch the thing. My favorite reaction so far was someone saying "Oh, he tryna invite himself out with us. Oh hell no. I don't know you!!" and, when they finally got to the reveal and pancakes were mentioned to be the trigger, he immediately went back into his Twitch VOD's to look at the first scene because he swore up and down that wasn't a thing. 😂 Then he spent 10 minutes just going 'Oh my gosh how did I not see that?!'

The best line from Akechi is (SPOILER WARNING) When he summons his persona, Loki, in the fight during Shido’s palace when he betrays the party. The way he yells it gets me every time. Edit: Everyone is saying different lines from that scene. The one I was thinking of was “That’s right. It’s my power, one that you don’t have! Allow me to show you! Perrrsoonaaugh!” (I spelled it like that so that it looks more like how he yells it) The line right before he uses “Desperation” on 2 monsters.

Honestly I thought akechi in the original persona 5 was bland as all hell. You never got to know him. All you got was the scripted events. Robbie did a phenomenal job with the voice. Especially with the switch to the psychotic side of him. In royal it's a completely different story. You get to see a new side of akechi. Ah yes, the most underappreciated 3H boy, Hubert. I came to love Robbie through Hubert bizarrely enough, because it's rare that I can both appreciate a character who is a mostly unrepentant sociopath and also see how nuanced they are. Hubert's an ass most of the time, but I like that he's honest about his opinions and Robbie's performance brings that through very well as well as his touching moments like the A Support with Bernadetta where he decides to pin the flower she made for him on his uniform because he likes it.
