hii, I'm melon and I'm reacting to dragon ball z abridged for the first time. This is my DBZ abridged episode 16-17 reaction. DBZ was my first anime and holds and special place in my heart:) I already really love this abridged series and am so excited to go on my DBZ abridged reaction journey.

In the original Japanese, Toriyama put in puns of people getting Goku's name wrong in ways that sounded like types of food. The sort of joke that's very difficult to translate to English. I think the thing in the hospital was a reference to that.

not a 100% on this but there's also the chance that it's the crazy problem with Japanese on how it's read compared to how it's pronounced at times. For instance, Light Yagami in Kanji and Hiragana is 夜神 月ライト And that directly translates as 'Night God' = 'Yagami' and 'Moon' = 'Light' but it is pronounced very differently than how its read, it's part of Japanese that's insanely difficult to explain to non-natives whose language is built on the Latin roots that we have.

Vegeta saying "why did I explode?" is because of the "big anime explosion" when he was thrown down by Zarbon, I mean it makes no sense having an explosion lol but it goes that way in the original anime

Hitting the ground at a sufficient velocity could cause an explosion, even with Vegeta's mass. Granted he'd probably have to be going much faster than was shown to create an explosion that big. A 20ft long tungsten rod dropped from orbit was estimated to create an explosion roughly equivalent to a 12 ton TNT blast. An explosion that powerful, by just dropping a dense metal from a very high altitude... and who knows how dense Vegeta is at this point in time!

Episode 17 started a tradition in DBZA, they usually have a character reading the disclaimer if they die or something important happens with them.

So, the Big Green and Little Green names are subtle nods to the Big Green Dub, which was dubbed in English by some studio called AB Groupe. It's known to be hilariously bad, to a point where they even change character names. (Eg. Piccolo was called Big Green) In fact... If I remember that episodes blooper correctly, it was about why King Kai didn't teach Tien and friend Kaioken. I found it in one compilation but since it has lots of other spoilers, decided to not spam it. So in short, one plot hole related joke missed but nothing major.

The eye catch in episode 16 was removed from the episode. They explained in their commentary video that back when they uploaded this, KZbin had a 10 minute length cap for videos, so if they added the eye catch, it would go over and they couldn't upload it. The eye catch itself was just about King Kai refusing to teach the Kaioken to Yamcha and Tien. They showed the clip in their creator commentary video for episode 16 so if you haven't seen it yet you can find it there

Inmortal is ''Not Dying'' but depends on the story the type of inmortality you have . Some heal your wounds, other types only heals you to the point you can survive, others don't heal at all,some types don't allow you to get hurt in the first place. You can still get damage and you can still ''almost Die'' The only thing is you are guaranteed Not Dying... A Saiyan (Depending on the inmortality) Could get a Boost from Most types of inmortality

The way it works is that Saiyans power 8ncreases in proportion to the strain on their bodies. So a saiyan that can't die would essentially have unlimited potential for growth in theory.

The reason the doctor couldn't pronounce Goku's name is that the hospital was in West City, which is kinda supposed to represent the US or Europe in Dragon Ball's Earth. I think there's a gag in Dragon Ball where the Tenkaichi Budokai announcer can't pronounce Goku's name as well

You didn't really miss anything. the "missing" scene at the end is just a little skit on King Kai's world. Jamcha mispronounces the Kaio-Ken, then King Kai throws a Hissyfit and decieds not to teach any of them his Techniques. It's to solve the plothole of why they trained at his place but didn't learn any of his techniques.

TFS’s change to Guru was another example of their wicked genius. Don’t get me wrong: the original him dying from a broken heart after the genocide of his people was definitely an effective hit in the feels. But turning him into a troll was surprising, unexpected, and hilarious. Also great set-up for the future.

Katas is an ancient Namekian that traveled to earth. It had a child; Unnamed Namekian( name is believed to be Kamiccolo) this character then remove the evil from his body, which became King Piccolo, while the nameless namekian became Kami. King Piccolo of course being the father of Piccolo

"Kamiccolo" isn't believed to be the name. At all. Even a little. "Kami" is a title and "Piccolo" is a Namekian word that also works as the password to their ship. Neither is in any way even vaguely suggested to be in any way connected to their original, unfused name. There's also the fact that every single other non-demon Namekian (except Guru, which is a title not a name) is named after snails and slugs.

I think they're making fun of how English is treated as the universal language, at least by a lot of Americans. And I'm not sure if you looked up credits, but both abridged Nappa and Guru are very similar in their absurdity and how much they're loved and quoted, and both of them happen to be voiced by Takahata. Same as Bardock, Cell, Dende, and others. The guy's got some real vocal diversity. Also to be fair to Zarbon, if I were put into a tank of "healing juices", I probably wouldn't want my clothing in there with me. Not unless I had a dry change of clothing waiting for me. I hate wet clingy clothes lol.

Vegeta has perfect character progression... if the show ended at Freeza. Trying to defeat freeza, failing, then crying and acknowledging that Goku is the Super Saiyan... perfect ending. Keeping for the rest of the show is kind of torture for him, just making him always second best to Goku

I'd recommend the Null Zone first, since that's the first one chronologically, & after that is The Strongest. You've already seen the Bardock Special, which is the last one that chronologically lines to with where you're at so far in DBZA. The Return of Cooler is next, which I'd recommend after episode... 47, I think? It's sometime during the Android Saga. The Strongest is actually tied with The Return of Cooler as my personal favorite movie out of the DBZA "films." I *_REALLY_* enjoy what they did with Doctor Wheelo.

Namekians don't have genders , they reproduce asexually, and since they don't reproduce sexually, there aren't male and female namekians, and are generally androgynous with masculine faces. The other thing that needs to be mentioned is that the world of dragon ball is separate from our earth, TFS may make references to our earth and it's cities, nations , products and other things but it's a separate world with it's own settings, governments ( they make much fun of the way that the DBZ world government is run and by whom) and geography, that is why you get confused about the setting of the world of dragon ball Z in the abridged series.... Oh one last thing, George Takei is a well known actor in sci-fi circles, best known for playing Mr.Sulu , the helmsman on the original Star Trek, he's also known for being homosexual and his very unique sounding voice, hence why they use his voice saying " Oooh Myyy" ( which he has said ina few comedies and real life moments, it's almost a catchphrase for him) in an almost sexually suggestive tone to what king Kai says to him .

There should be gynomorphic Namekians and Arcosians (while the Arcosians are apparently an already canon thing, I'm using it as shorthand for Frieza race), and also there should be chubby and skinny body types for both of the Majins types. Also, people who hormonally transition from andromorphic to gynomorphic or vice versa tend to stronger, so liek, even though I personally would never use it, the different bodytypes should be able to have the other's abilities. Or atleast gynomorphic human strikers should be viable options in Xenoverse 2. I mean, I guess they already are as a result of humans not really having downsides other than being boring AF, but still.
