Ousama Ranking is definitely going to be the most underrated show this season considering how people will likely think it's a kid's show because of its art style, when in fact it's the complete opposite. It has amazing animation and is far above almost every other anime this season in terms of storytelling. The recent episodes have been very dark, and it completely overturns any cliches you'd expect, and piles plot twists upon plot twists. Every single character, including the jealous younger brother ( the apparent antagonist from the beginning), is well-written and non-cliche. Edit: Still an amazing show, but the details I mentioned about the younger brother were incorrect and there’s actually far better antagonism written in.

Of all the anime this season Ousama Ranking stands out to me the most. It will go down as a cult classic and I will be recommending it for years to come. The art style may throw people off but it truly is a great show that will have you wanting the next episode each week, which is a rare feeling for me after some 20+ years of anime watching. The way it subverts expectations without being cliche deus ex and shows the characters as being more than what you initially see them as really works well. The art style definitely plays no small role in this either as it is an art style we typically associate with very specific cliche stories from our childhood. It may well be the reason they chose that art style in the first place and if so then I take my hat off to them because it was a true 4D chess move.

@@kaelthunderhoof5619 Gave it a shot. Overall, I enjoyed it but there were some things I didn't like as well. I'd say it's current rating on Mal is fitting, if a bit high. As for the things I didn't like: - I've never been a fan of time skips. That show did it consistently and always ended the episode on a high tension point which you don't get to see resolved. You know it resolved as the story continues and those characters are still alive but I don't enjoy skipping the resolution after so much buildup. **SPOILER TERRITORY** (sorry can't avoid it) - The second is the main female lead, Biwa, who has the ability to see the future. We never see her try and fail to prevent a future prediction yet she acts as if she has. She makes no attempt to reveal the future until the very end of the series and it's only after everyone is already dead. - The last has to do with the narration which always comes in to gloss over major events and tell it without showing it. Often showing random bits of scenery before cutting to later conversation after x or y battle has occurred. The only exception being the final battle at the end of the series. This series reminds me a LOT of Katanagatari but it lacks in many areas where that series got it right. I'd maybe recommend this series to those who really enjoyed Katanagatari and want something similar but would definitely recommend Katanagatari first and foremost.

This has turned out to be a surprisingly solid season of anime thus far. *"Senpai ga Uzai Kouhai no Hanashi"* and *"Taishou Otome Otogibanashi"* are very enjoyable for those looking for a cute romcom, while *"Takt Op. Destiny"* and *"Tsuki to Laika to Nosferatu"* are cool sci-fi shows that do their own thing. My favorite show of the season is definitely *"Sakugan"* though, it has such a cool world mixed with some great characters and brilliant comedy. Might seriously be a contender for anime of the year for me!

I just need a second to show my appreciation for Gigguk, he’s what really got me into anime. I watched a few shows like Naruto and SAO and then I saw his videos because I wanted to seek more, his jokes are so well planned and fit right into my humor and I found myself watching his videos sometimes more than actually watching anime, I for a sense of community in his videos and comment sections and even just in how he coordinates the jokes with that memes are going around as well as his sublime editing and detail in his videos showing that he truly cares. These videos made me want to be an anime fan, I found a medium that not only has whatever genre I wanted to watch, an extreme appreciation for animation itself like mine, but also a new world I could explore and these videos really helped me dive into the medium. OP assasin reincarnation thing is the biggest surprise this season. Its definitely not the best show of the season, but despite being a "template isekai' with an overpowered proatgonist and a harem, its especially interesting. The OP main character seems to have real long term threats (the godess and her uncertain motives, an overpowered hero to defeat, hints at other reincarnated op people). The magic and skills system is legitimately interesting. And, as a side note, the opening visuals are just great.

To anyone still hesitant on Ranking of Kings, give it the ol' 3 episode rule. I checked it out cause it's ratings seemed unnaturally high for what I dismissed as a kids show. But it turned out to be one of my favorites for the season. I'm genuinely impressed at how so many seemingly unimportant, 1-dimensional characters have managed to get so much depth and development in such a short period of time. Almost every character is more than meets the eye and the world building is fantastic. *Mild Spoiler Alert* The obnoxiously harsh step-mother character turned out to have a heart of gold who only wants to protect her step-son just as much as her actual son. I was so used to that character trope being introduced as intolerable and remaining that way, that it really caught me off guard with how they managed to completely erase my hate for her in so few episodes.

A nice fantasy slice of life I would really recommend is “Banished from the hero’s party”. A calm and somewhat heartwarming show that shapes a genuine smile on my tired face, adapted from manga and light novel. Follow the new life in a backwater town of a former member of the hero’s party (duh) as he takes a step back and enjoy simple things. If I watched that anime back when I was a virgin preteen I would've loved everything about it, but right now it's kinda ridiculous for me. Don't get me wrong, the idea on itself seems pretty cool and enjoyable but it's just the characters that I can't get along with. Give it a try! Maybe you'll like it, people has different taste!
