At his best, before the second injury that curtailed his speed by 15-20km, Waqar was the GREATEST EVER. No doubt in my mind. I struggle to find someone better, more accurate and more destructive than Waqar at his peak-that's why in the first half of his career a very high percentage of his wickets were LBW and bowled. And what was frightening was that he produced prodigious swing at very high speed making him unplayable against even the BEST batsmen of his era. Waqar's best was better than anybody else's best. No one comes near.

IMO he had a beautiful bowling action and was statistically one of the best there ever has been. This was when Waqar was bowling at express pace. I wish they had speed guns then. You only saw their use late in his career when his pace dropped. Although I can’t comment about 70’s, 80’s cricket since I only started following the game during the 90’s , the brand of cricket played during those days was amazing to watch. It used to be an equal competition between the bat and the ball unlike today when it is all about keeping the crowd entertained by hitting it out of the park. Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, Curtly Ambrose, Courtney Walsh, Shaun Pollock, Allan Donald, Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, Anil Kumble, Chaminda Vaas, Muttiah Muralitharan, Heath Streak, Saqlain Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmed were legendary bowlers.
