Before going mainstream, Anita had slowly built a considerable following. I believe with all of my heart that the RAPTURE CD was a crowning achievement for Anita and maybe the entire music industry. She MASTERED the obscured jazz singing style of scatting in BEEN SO LONG. People could tell that she did her homework. She didn't need fancy vocal range and acrobatics - JUST SOUL! Many credit Anita for a whole new genre of adult contemporary called THE QUIET STORM - Can I get a thumbs up somebody?!

Anita Baker is a singer AND a musician AND a band leader in the vein of the great Duke Ellington. She works with and writes with the best, legendary pianist Barry Eastmond among them. She IS NOT turning her back to the audience. She is acknowledging her great band and backup singers as they also feed energy into the song and into her performance. Excellent analysis Spi rit. You are spot on what you said. I had the blessing of seeing Queen Anita live twice in concert during her Farewell Tour since 2018, and just as you described, I saw her masterfully do all of that during her shows. She is a maestro, a true perfectionist when she performs. It is very awesome to see her live! She is the true definition.of a pro in every sense of the word! She is the best to ever grace a stage for yours truly!!

The only contralto I know of that can hit soprano in her natural voice...range is bananas. I think she's a mezzo soprano really with a contralto tone

Man...if an artists can cause you to get goosebumps, then you know you are a bad artists. Very few can in my case, Teena Marie & Rachelle Farrell were/are the other only two that could.
