Don’t get me wrong, yes she is amazing but it’s literally killing me that she refuses to sing any of her songs live like the studio version 😭 The songs are already amazing as is, I just want to be blown away by hearing the exact progression / melody / runs live

Then maybe live music isn't your thing. The purpose of live music is that anything can happen. And if you really know Anita, you know that she comes from a Jazz background, which means things are spontaneous and never done the same. That's part of the magic of Anita Baker. It's a live experience and not just trying to replicate the studio recordings.

@@Pistol_pixie The good thing is that the studio recording is always available. The closest I've heard her stick to the recorded version of this song was on the One Night of Rapture live VHS, but that had an extra something to it. But you'll never hear Anita do anything the same way twice. As she's said from the very beginning of her career "What I do on stage is never planned. I follow the spirit".

@@Pistol_pixie I apologize if I came off harsh. That wasn't my intent. It was a knee jerk reaction. Recently a couple people that don't really know what kind of artist Anita is has said similar things. I'm not saying you're in that category though. But I understand what you're saying, but the truth is you'll never get a replica of the recordings, because she's always playing with melody; it's just a part of who she is.
