Excellent! "Hints" are spot on. I haven't sewn Ankara prints in a while, but am encouraged to return to it! Many thanks.

The bigger the pattern repeat, the more extra fabric you'll need to buy if you want to match it. And if you have a button-front design, plan for how much the buttonhole side will overlap the button side. Rather than matching seam line to seam line, you will match seam line of buttonhole side to the overlap point of the button side. My favorite thing is patch pockets that blend in so well you can barely see them. There is just something so elegant about that unbroken pattern flowing over the pocket.

Recently found your channel and enjoy watching you. I've been sewing for over 50 years and got away from making clothes for my family and others. You are inspiring me to go back to making our clothes again. Love the Ankara fabric. Beautiful colors and patterns.

Thank you for such helpful tips when pattern matching! Until your video a few months back on Ankara fabric, I hadn't been aware of such fabric. I had seen gorgeous African fashions where I live, but Ankara isn't available to purchase as a fabric in our city. I guess it is because our black population is about 1.3% yet more than 50% of our population is non-white, predominantly from China, India, the Phillipines, Iran and countries neighbouring these. I ordered 3 yards of cotton Ankara online after watching your video. I decided to start small because I haven't had great experience with online fabric shopping. The fabric I ordered is beautiful. The colours are true to my computer screen. I'm narrowing down what to make. This video will help me greatly with pattern placement!

Just thinking that Simplicity S8910 would look fabulous in Ankara fabric (and the front, back, front skirt and back skirt are cut on the fold, so the only potential match is skirt side seams and horizontal waist seams!) I've made it a couple of times in linen with big pattern repeats, works well.

You know what, Catherine, I went back through my stash to see if I have this pattern and I don’t. Well, thanks, I have just been influenced. 🤣🤣🤣 I purchased one for myself. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

@@JulietUzor_ I changed it a bit, made the pockets deeper (of course!) and lined the bodice with cotton jersey for comfort, and lack of see-through-ness! Really easy though (and comes with an option for fancy sleeves).

Great Video as always Juliet! When the fabric print is the same on both sides does it matter massively if they are mixed up - sometimes I really can't see the differences🤭
@JulietUzor_4 жыл бұрын
Beanton King that’s exactly how I feel. The reason I think they should be marked is just to keep things uniform.

Great video. People think I go OCD but every time I think it's symmetrical I find out its not. I love Atampa/Ankara but as one of those people who likes to see things match it can be annoying. I'm going to try marking the seams.
