I saw her in concert in the early 2000's. Great performance. Met her afterwards and she was so down to earth and lovely. Just charming. Not at all fake. A really genuinely nice person. Ann-Margret would never have given up her career for Elvis. She was very ambitious and driven. They were a little too much alike to last for long.

The chemistry that both of them had in Viva Las Vegas is undeniable. The first movie where I saw Elvis and I was a goner. A fan for over 60 years. I can imagine that connection carrying over to an off screen romance. I think they both did the right thing as their respective careers meant so much to them. Her husband, Roger Smith took great care of his wife until he passed, and I think Priscilla did the best she could as his confidant and mate. I think the demands put on him and his fame are the reason he did not grace this life long. However, his impact while he was here is indelible and my respect for Ann Margaret's career, class, and the love of a man who jump started it all.

One of the things I’ve always loved about, and Margaret was rising above all of this. With the death of her husband, the death of Lisa, Marie Elvis’s daughter, it wouldn’t surprise me if she squash the rumors knowing there is no one left that could be hurt by this. It would all come down to her relationship with Priscilla, and both of those women are such a class act.

Elvis was a complex man. He was shy and vulnerable but that could switch very quickly to controlling behavior. You’d need to be a psychiatrist to successfully navigate a marriage with him. It’s my guess intelligent women found him both stimulating and exhausting at the same time. Ann Margaret was older and wiser and saw the pitfalls where Priscilla was too young and waltzed right in. I think Ann dodged a bullet.

I met my future husband at 14. He was 18. My parents wouldn’t let us date the first few times he asked. I’ve never understood the Beaulieus allowing Priscilla to go to America at 14, no matter the assurances given by Elvis and his parents. It was unconscionable. I know how rebellious teenaged girls can be, but they should have been able to handle that until she was older and mature enough to handle being with Elvis. However, I’m sure his fame, charm, and basic decency were not easy to resist. But how hard did they try? I am one of his biggest fans, and I’ve even been to Graceland, but this part of his life was bizarre. He didn’t want her once she became a mother, and he went so far as to tell her how to do her hair, even to dye it, and how to dress.As I said, bizarre.

I felt that Ann Margaret is a beautiful person and loved her for respecting Elvis. I really felt that she was better for Elvis. Elvis was a man of his word and had promised Priscilla's father that he would marry her when she turned 21. I never had bad feelings about Priscilla until she was having affairs with different men, while still married to Elvis. After he passed away, I did respect Priscilla for handling Elvis's affairs, Graceland and helping Lisa since she was still too young. I didn't like how she was handling Lisa in her last marriage and taking sides with her ex-husband, then after Lisa Marie passed away, Priscilla was suing her granddaughter Riley. Then the fact that she never changed her name after the divorce, then fought in court to be buried at Graceland, make me not have so much respect for her. She knew in her life that if she ever put Elvis in a bad light, she would lose everything, so that's why she didn't bad mouth him, but I am sure she would have wanted too. Lisa didn't have a relationship with her mom anymore, that should make people think.

Elvis said the death of his marriage began when his wife became a mother because he could no longer be attracted to her since she had a maternal role. He also said that was the only thing that lacked, and he wished he could have gotten over that but could not. His relationship with Ann Margaret was one where neither were free of other relationship commitments at the same time as the other and knew about it, just poor timing. I watched the movie about Priscilla- I was shocked. Elvis was so cruel and gaslit her endlessly. I'm surprised that she made it through that time. I met her years ago - she attended the same high school I graduated from before she met Elvis. She was very interested in talking to me when I told her I graduated from Del Valle HS in 1980.
