Is it me or is this just a poorly performed set? She has sloppy movements on top and some very suspicious behavior for the routine. How many magicians turn this backs to the audience when they are holding a deck of cards?

When I watched her perform on AGT I thought she was a very clumsy magician. Her acts just seemed awkward and nervous. I'm surprised she made it as far as she did.

I mean if you're familiar with magic sure. But clearly it's good enough for the general audience. Also she's relatively young, and the judges were being horrible participants. When she asked Simon his card, he initially said the wrong card on purpose and you could see her heart skip a beat. Then the Spanish lady didn't know how to say her card, and Simon translated wrong. Howie legitimately forgot his card. Whether a performance is good or not ultimately rests with the audience, so even if it was clumsy and wouldn't fly on Fool Us, the audience here clearly enjoyed it

Card tricks are my least favorite, and this is a perfect example of why. As long as they touch it forget it that’s the trick right there, they control everything and expect us to be fooled by that. I know this can be told of almost every magic trick but I feel it’s even more severe in the case of cards.

I get what you're saying, how there's plenty of really good footers, that CAN be performed without the magician touching the deck at all. Even from a brand new sealed deck, or a deck provided by the spectator.
