I always wanted Anna to sing fragments from Adriana and, finally, my patience is rewarded. I cannot wait for her to sing the full opera. This role is very good for her...as well as singing Magdalena in Andrea Chenier. Long overdue....

I think Freni has better technique, but Anna's singing is more emotional and catching. She is quite different from most opera singers.

IT is commonly believed that this role is sung by sops. who have past their "sell by" date. This may or may not be correct, (probably depending who's singing it.) In any event, she is not the first soprano to develop a tremolo and she won't be the last.

Lasciamo perdere il corpo che ognuno gestisce come vuole e come si sente, se le piace essere grassa sono fatti suoi, ma una cantante che si esibisce è ovvio che si sottoponga al giudizio del pubblico e se questo non è bue e ha almeno una certa conoscenza della musica e del canto....bhè certo che muove le sue critiche o i suoi apprezzamenti. Dunque adesso la Netrebko, forse anche a causa di quella sciagura di tenore che frequenta, intuba per rinforzare e scurire la sua voce con pessimi risultati, non fosse per le smorfie e le boccacce indecenti che fa. Il suono, ovviamente, ne risente in gran misura perché perde in lucentezza, levità, grazia e soprattutto in armonici mentre l'interpretazione così caricata risulta falsata nella sua espressività in aderenza al personaggio come scritto dall'autore (ed anche come la stessa natura femminile esige.....) Mi ricorda oggi quelle matrioske russe che a Mosca spazzavano un tempo le strade con i fazzolettoni in testa e qui in occidente tutti si scandalizzavano per la perduta femminilità e i corpaccioni pesanti e sformati. Sformato il corpo, sformata l'interpretazione, sformata la voce. Ok, sono fatti suoi ma è finita. E non si venga a dire che è evoluta in un soprano drammatico e altre stupidaggini del genere perché chi sa cantare, e lei sapeva cantare, sa benissimo che queste possono essere distinzioni di timbro ma non di emissione e il timbro si può al massimo deformare caricando ed enfatizzando certe note dei registri medio e grave, mandando a rotoli il registro acuto. Oggi, ecco che al posto della Netrebko c'è una giovane donna dotata, bella e brava che canta come si deve cantare e come cantano gli angeli del cielo: Nadine Sierra. Peccato che sia andata così e amen.

yes I agree. I don't think I have ever heard her voice soooo spread. Its weirdly pushed and we all know she is trying to just beef up all round. But the overall effect is there. It's not Freni who got legitimately vocally huge but there we are.

Remember when a certain Brunhilda couldn't get a particular role? ....the role that required she fit into a "little black dress"? I don't mean this in any mean way. Unlike many of those commenting below, I AM a fan of Anna Netrebko. And as a fan who wishes her the best always, I WISH she would follow the example of that certain Brunhilda.

Follow that Brunhilda's example of losing voice and ending career sooner than expected? How dare you to call yourself a fan of Anna Netrebko?! I don't blame that Brunhilda for her choice. In fact, no one has the right to blame her for that. Firstly, it's her body that she should be the only one to decide how it should look like. Secondly, her overweight was not just a problem of her look but more serious a problem of her health, as you can read in her book. Meanwhile, Anna Netrebko is in every sense a healthy beautiful woman with a full body. I find a woman with curve quite charming.

Women shouldn't be condemned, criticized, or judged simply by, as you put it: "full body"... "her overweight." So I do agree with you that decisions about weight should be personal, not imposed by societal ideals. Responding to pressure to be thin, Maria Callas was bulimic for some years. I wouldn't want AT to resort to that pathology. There is, unfortunately, a reality that when your face is puffy and you struggle to get up from the floor (just saw her in Manon a month or so ago at the MET) people might not be as interested in buying a ticket to see/hear you. That is bad for her and it's bad for opera in general: AT has been a major draw of audiences to opera all around the world. From viewing a fairly recent post on KZbin that shows her eating breakfast with her husband and others, I got the idea she doesn't know that fried potato patties are fattening, not "light."

She isn't holding up too bad vocally, but she has certainly put on more than a few pounds. Doesn't seem to sing with as much ease as she use to and a bit sloppy vocally.
