This was in 2007. Unfortunately much water has passed under the bridge since then. Anna got married and had a baby and Rolando has had endless problems with his voice. I don't think we will see this magic again as I cannot think of another couple that can produce this much electricity. Even Netrebko with Erwin Schrott appears cold as ice.

The last sentence is very accurate. I think it is because Erwin Schrott is extremely narcissistic. Rolando sings with admiration for Anna as the character requires.

Netrebko is not one of my absolute favorites, but she does a lot of roles really well, and given an opportunity to flirt ... she's fantastic. I preferred him with Dessay in that fantastic Manon they did together, but Netrebko has a beautiful voice and in "cheerful" duets she can be wonderful.

Ever heard of Anna Moffo or Renee Fleming, to name but two giants among American sopranos? Both are vocally more accomplished and musically subtler in interpreting roles than Netrebko, although she has a sumptuous voice in the Russian tradition - and as someone said elsewhere, is a gold medal flirt on stage, which goes down immensely well with audiences - though it's nothing to do with any musical quality, obviously. Yes we all like her very much, but her musical achievement is another issue.

Yes, I've both heard of, and heard, both Moffo and Flemming; very nice, but they don't have the "sumptuous" voice of Netrebko. The voice is basic; everything else is secondary.

It is such a shame to see Roland sing with such a talentless nobody as this russian bird, he was superb with Katherine Jenkins in the 2006 production of La Boheme with Katherine Jenkins, and that was an all time career high, now he's let himself go
