É inegável a superioridade vocal da Anna Netrebko na interpretação dessa maravilhosa peça musical.Na minha opnião essa é a interpretação definitiva de Jeux veux Vivre.Nota-se no final que o maestro posiciona a batuta para reger os acordes finais e aguarda a extensão da voz da Anna que é surpreendentemente longo.Desde o início nota-se também a emoção da Anna na expressão corporal,que aliás,é algo que ela faz muito bem.Anna é uma bela mulher que através do seu canto esbanja beleza e feminilidade.

When I hear her lack of vibrato here, in most places I feel and hear tension in the voice as well as less connection to her breath, which is very taxing on the voice. (I can’t remember the technical term for that feeling but it’s a thing.) This is especially evident in the “Je veux vivre...” section where there are multiple onsets close together. Don’t get me wrong, she navigates the passages well overall. She does wonderfully well given the type of voice this was written for, but it sounds like she’s trying to fit her big, warm sound into a small box that’s meant for a lighter voice... because that’s exactly what it feels like she’s doing, lol. Still a good interpretation though.

I'm a girl too and can't help but agree with you. If you are watching her sing and i think on stage that counts for something (cf Maria Callas!), you hear mostly beautiful singing, especially when in company of her Spaniard full-open mouthed tenor Villazon. And her acting, which also counts during onstage performances, is credible (and at times INCREDIBLE!). It's amazing to read see such controversy over this diva.

What Anna has going for her, is TONE, TONE and TONE... she has a gorgeous sounding voice, and of considerable size.. She is a lyric.. with coloratura, not the reverse.. and in the right fach, she is stunning.

Yes I realize that Beverly has passed away but I have a lot of her CDs and I hear her as well as Anna everyday. I don't speak French so I don't know if Anna is mispronouncing French words or not. I am not surprised that Beverly praised her singing because her voice is clear as a bell and I love her no matter what anyone says. The mad scene from Puritan I really took my breath away.

Thank you for posting this. Like defygravityy below, I, too, just saw Romeo & Juliet at Vancouver Opera (tonight, final performance) and was surprised to find I did know at least one aria in the opera--this one. This is a really fine performance by Netrebko, missing only the en scene dramatization to make it quite perfect, I think. Thanks again.

Anna Netrebko has only 2 defects: -Her COMPETENCE -Her TALENT These two things (and mostly the first) are really a TERROR for classical music world, because they leads to HARD WORK, while classical music world, today loves LENIENT LAZINESS. Her stunning beauty, who makes some drag-popera-queen green of ENVY, is only a secondary matter. Contemporary opera world fits her REALLY REALLY TIGHT.

I loved Beverly Sills but she is retired. I guess ignorance is bliss because I must be ignorant because I truly enjoy her voice, the quality and obviously the audience did, too. So in my ignorance I will continue to enjoy Anna. I miss Beverly Sills, but time for the next generation.

I would not say the best EVER, we don't know how many singers of the past performed (Cavalieri, Weber, Malibran)... Everyone that calls him/herself a singer would like to have Joan as a teacher! Netrebko is completely right in liking Sutherland, but she does not come close to Sutherland's accomplishments. Joan Sutherland had the most beautiful soprano voice I've ever heard and a wonderful technique that helped her sustain clear and ringing high notes at her 50's!!! That's it!

Dessay's intentional staccato, fragmented phrasing interpretation. Having also seen photos of Fleming in her current Violetta at the ROH, one can only marvel at Netrebko's resilience, endurance and commitment to bel canto opera.
