She may not sounds like she sounded 10 years ago, but back then she was one of the greatest sopranos... And now so many of you trying to take from her all that she has accomplished just because you don't like the way she sings in now... That kind of behavior and mindset is pathetic. Whether you like it or not, her name will remain among The Greatest because she once was and no one could take that away from her.

Wrong. When I saw her in I Puritani over a decade ago I had to leave the theatre because it was that bad. I had absolutely no negative feelings for her at the time. In fact, I was excited to hear this singer everyone was talking about. Her voice has always been problematic, and future generations will forget her soon enough because of it.

At times too low, due to thickening the voice and faulty registration, at times too high, due to pushing to much. Other than that, watch her jaw - it literally looks like she is chewing while singing. Great singing is dependent on a relaxed jaw. Anna's jaw is anything but relaxed. She leaks air when she sings soft. Great singing implies the ability to sing pianissimo without leaking. And so on...

Her voice does sound more dramatic than before, and the audience wants the young Netrebko back. They will judge, criticize, and behave as though they were real experts. If you don't like her singing now, just don't listen. You don't have to. But how can you be so mean to Anna, who has been singing for decades? Mario del Monaco for instance was always a dramatic tenor with a just mindblowing powerful dramatic voice whereas Pavarotti (to name some of the best known) was always very lyric. So is she. Yes, Netrebko is still a lyric soprano. She does dramatic roles - with poor technique and great, obvious strain. But a dramatic soprano Netrebko will never be. She simply and totally lacks the instrument. Loud, coarse, and crude does not equal dramatic soprano. It is just BAD singing.

I’m not an expert, but I’ve read that singer are a type of voice and that’s it. You don’t become dramatic soprano with the passing of years… that’s a mistake of singing teachers: start in light roles follow lyric and afterwards jump to the heavy roles. That paradigm ruins both light singers in the second half of their careers and ruins heavy singers voices in their youth forever.

Das empfinde ich ebenso: In diesem Fall: Sehr viel Physis der Stimme ohne echtes Temperament, kaum Ausdruck....aber immer noch ein schönes stimmliches Material, gekonnt geführt. Die solide Technik lässt das Altern der Stimme kaum wahrnehmen. Callas verfügte nur noch über Reste ihrer Stimme in diesem Alter.....Aber im Gegensatz zu Anna ist die Callas unsterblich....Anna werden wir wohl vergessen!

Haben Sie die deströse Aida von Saioa Hernandez an der Scala gehört? Das ist eine Sängerin, deren Verherrlichung im Internet mit absolut schleierhaft ist. Ein Timbre ohne nennenswerten Wiedererkennungswert oder Schönheit, eine äußerst fragwürdige Technik, die Unfähigkeit zu dynamischer Modulation und ein ausgeprägtes Tremolo in jeder Lage - so eine Sängerin hätte vor 50 Jahren keinerlei Chance gegen Sängerinnen aus der zweiten Reihe (Roberti, Mancini, Martinis, Petrella etc.) gehabt.

@@wallenstein72 Ja, ich habe sie ein wenig auf KZbin angehört....Meines Erachtens handelt es sich bei ihr um einen typischen dramatischen Sopran mit ziemlicher "Durchschlagkraft", will sagen Lautstärke (ich kann sie mir gut für Wagner vorstellen) ....Das so ungewöhnliche bei der Callas war ja, dass sie auch über eine sehr starke Stimme verfügte (ihre Isolde in jungen Jahren war phänomenal) , jedoch besaß sie auch die Beweglichkeit schwierigste Koloraturen entweder dramatisch durchzutragen oder aber auch mit äußerster Leichtigkeit zu singen, sie war eben auch und vor allem ein soprano d'agilita, das ermöglichte ihr ein riesiges Repertoire und machte aus ihr DIE primadonna assoluta....Für mich geht nach wie vor keine über sie......

She denounced the Russian invasion of Ukraine but apparently, that wasn't enough to satisfy the Met/Peter Gelb who insisted she publicly denounce Putin. Shame on the Met for being so politically focused and bowing to cancel culture instead of striving to keep the fine arts apart from and above the vicious political actions of tyrants. She has lots of friends and relatives in Russia who could be put in jeopardy if she were to publicly denounce Putin. As an Anna Netrebko fan I insist that the Met grow a spine and revoke their unreasonable demand and reverse their politically-driven position on Ms Netrebko performing with the Met this year. The Met's position in this case is unreasonable, cowardly and untenable in my opinion.

You missed the old axiom of the theatre: But what have you done LATELY? With Netrebko, the "lately" is grotesque, unprofessional, and substandard. It is precisely decent (not high) standards, good taste, and musical professionalism that lead to more negative assessments of la Netrebko. Of course if you view or engage in this as just an adolescent exercise in "feelings", such as hate, of course you miss this entire adult reality.

@@merkson9130 tylko, że ona jest jak najbardziej "horrible singer" :) śpiewa okropnie, jest cała pozaciskana, pod dźwiękiem, wibrato (a bardziej 'wobble', bo tego zdrowym wibratem nie można nazwać) jak stąd na Himalaje. Brzmi jak parodia śpiewaczki operowej, i zabiera się za role, do których nie ma absolutnie żadnych predyspozycji. Sorry, ale to nie jest opinia, tylko fakt - technicznie jest bardzo, bardzo zła.

You read my mind! thank you! In an interview she also said she was not considered by her school as the best vocalist and has been criticised a lot. And I see, till this day. It's absurd! But how she can capture emotion with her voice is superb. I love her singing and to me she is one of the best! Her voice color is like no other and I enjoy listening to her the most of all opera singers. Not because she is the best, but evokes emotions. That is what music is for.

More dramatic pieces must match with her now... Delicate control is important for Luise, but this time her voice bends irregularly in the treble at high pitch, her voice became more dramatic greatly, so...

That would be *Louise*. Not Dom de Luise. -:) It is a matter of technique - not dramatic versus lyric. Her recent Aida had far worse high register notes than this. La Netrebko is too lazy to keep working on her technique - as any truly professional singer must do. In recent Tosca and Aidas, Netrebko had no overtones in her high notes. Here Netrebko does manage some overtones - she just can't keep them on pitch much of the time.
