I guarantee she’s literally only doing this because they didn’t give her the 5th place trophy the day of and made her wait for it in the mail. It was a tie for 5th. If Thomas hadn’t competed, nothing would have changed except Gaines would’ve gotten her 5th place trophy earlier Lia and Riley tied for 5th, and they gave Lia the 5th place trophy and mailed Riley her own after the event. I guarantee she’s literally only doing this because they didn’t give her the 5th place trophy the day of and made her wait for it in the mail. I get that people get in causes because of a life-changing event, and I get it that Gaines "thinks" it is unfair that she competed with a trans woman. But I think her target should be the rules committees of college sports (or any regulatory body of sports). Not attacking other female competitors in other sports because they think differently than Gaines. Riley is someone who lost to other cis females, but there was this one time she lost to a transgender swimmer, so now she has to make a big deal out it to distract from the fact that she sucked at swimming. At this point, her title be should be "Professional Loser," as that is the identity she has leaned into. She could have celebrated her success as being a competitive swimmer. Instead, her entitlement decided to take on the identity of the loser and make a career out of it. Why didn't she just swim better?

Eh. I dunno. On one hand, gender critical people say they don't agree with hatred towards trans individuals, they just want them to stay out of single sex spaces and women's sports. That's fair enough, but I think calling Caitlyn a "he" even when she knows Caitlyn agrees with her stance is a step too far. It then shows at least some of it is about being unkind and rude to all trans people. And when you get to that space, you start losing support.

@@Paul2377 Think of it this way. If you call someone who is male a she because it's the kind thing to do, it sets a precedent. Not calling someone by preferred pronouns becomes an unkind act that can then be legislated against. You end up with laws such as Bill C-16 (in Canada) which would make it hate speech to call someone by their real pronouns. Compelling speech, by law, regarding material reality is a bad road to go down.

There'd be no reason to do it other than being unkind and wanting to upset him. To me, this is similar. It's that sort of intolerance that leads to other intolerance. For example, I expect you're not accepting of gay people either - probably because you think being kind to gay people sets a precedent that it's OK for adults to love other adults of the same sex as them.

I follow Riley Gaines because I have a daughter and two great grandchildren, and I had to face a court martial to get my daughter's molester adjudicated back in the early eighties, the man being our next door neighbor in our duplex on base. I will move heaven and earth to prevent anything like the same to happen to my great grandchildren, and it seems this day and age makes it all the more likely I will have to act. I believe "the trans movement" has greatly exacerbated the situation and added real confusion for the kids and for those simply trying to keep some modicum of sanity about these things for our children, in the midst of growing up. I worked "drug and alcohol management" for three years in the Marines for an 1100 man squadron, it was the single most challenging assignment I ever faced, well including six months in Beirut, 82-83, and time in Iraq and Afghanistan. As someone that has transitioned and the exact reason I don't compete running anymore. I am faster than most females and males, but I don't want to take the spot they worked for. It's just a time to me, but means more to them. I have 20 or so long distance running medals on my wall, I ran one race after transition and placed and gave it to the next person and didn't run again.
