Anna Pirozzi proved herself a worthy successor of Callas in this role. Pirozzi was more the abandoned, cheated mother than the young vengeful witch Callas was but I think both interpretations are valid.

I may be mistaken on this, but if memory serves me correctly, I believe that as time progressed, Callas eventually portrayed the role as more the abandoned, cheated mother, than the evil witch that she portrayed in her earlier years.

@artdanks4846 with Callas I got the sense it was more about revenge, than desperation though.

Brava! Not easy to do this in hommage to Callas in Athens! Such great colors in the vocal lines!

L aria non è delle più difficili di Medea, ma Anna Pirozzi la esegue con tantissime sfumature. Mi piacerebbe ascoltare anche altro e sapere dove ha eseguito l opera!

Pirozzi is a very good singer- what Callas once said, is true: this old-style classical opera risks to be boring, unless the interpreter is able to bring it to life again- I am not sure Pirozzi can

where was this? it looks like the same production as the met’s. who’s the tenor?
@evageloskafiris3421 Жыл бұрын
It's the same production but at the Greek national opera. I think the tenor is Giorgio Berrugi.

MUCH better than Radvanovsky! Pirozzi has much more core to her voice. Radvanovsky's is a bigger sound, but with no core. Pirozzi's voice is a bit lighter voice than Medea should have, but still does an excellent job. In a way, her Medea makes me think of Christina Deutekom's Medea, whom I thought was quite good (though, of course, still not on the level of Callas). I would love to hear Pirozzi in the entire role, but not Radvanovsky.

Yes, I hear the Deutekom comparison.

I watched the whole production of Medea in Athens. And I have to say that it was one of the most magical performances that I had the opportunity to watch in person. And Anna Pirozzi was wonderful as Medea, her voice was powerful!

@Noack Somewhere I wasn't comparing them as singers. I was merely suggesting that in both cases their voices were both a bit on the bright side for the role of Medea, but they were also both able to make it work. Better than Radvanovsky at any rate. Voicing my opinion of this fact was not in any way a "disgrace" or an insult to Deutekom, who I thought was a remarkable singer.

a full-voiced rendition, rather than a hollow- and thin-voiced one, rad’s voice unfortunately has no core, and there’s often that horrible tremulous vibrato. i know rad works very hard and is a compelling performer, but the voice is just not pleasant to hear.

@@biancacastafiore8760 Unfortunately, I agree with you on Rads voice type it's all over the place. As if your having a nightmare, I know this sounds harsh but like I've said in the past. I wouldn't go hear her even if it was free. And others are in the same category mon amie, Very sad but very true. Greetings from France 🇨🇵 Arnaud Bourbon Amaral

@@arnoldamaral3814 it's clear that you never heard Sondra live. And did all of you hear the other aria with Pirozzi to say that her Medea was better the Sondra's? I really hope you didn't.
