I recommend The Pirc for black. It's an extremely passive defensive opening that most opponents will overextend against.

I think she had a straight out mate, but her flag might have fallen in 5 seconds. Probably not, but maybe yes. She was lucky to have the half point available so she took it!

The problem white has is, if you play something like bishop f8, then black's queen can take on e5 and cover the g7 square. White is very much winning, but there's no knockout and that's pretty stressful if you have 5 seconds on your clock.

Bishop C6-F8 Queen F7-G7 Checkmate. Even if black Queen takes Pawn E5, you still continue to play with a bishop and queen right up against the king. Would have been interesting to see that play out a bit more. Guess I'm not seeing what Anna was so she took it to a draw. Dunno, I'm not chess master.

Bishop F8 doesnt work because the knight is guarding the queen on c3. Anna found the best line with Qf8+, Kh7 and Qxf7+

I saw 2 blunders. As soon as he castled, and she still had power, she should have attacked that castle, even if it meant sacrificing a piece to open it up. Later, she lost too much power to do it.

She could have won but she still has this time problem, like her mother tho

@@kurtiskuchcinski2628 I don't think Qxe5 would delay it by much. Wouldn't Qxg6 basically seal the deal? I think it would take around 3 moves for a checkmate, but I am bad at visualizing moves, lol. I think she had enough time. Edit: Looked it over, and yeah, Qxe5 would prolong it. It's a pesky position. I need to get better at visualizing moves.

Yeah, I analyze the game with stockfish, and it doesn't show any checkmates within the top 10 moves. Qe8+ was the move it said was best. The bishop one was the 4th best move, and the black gets their queen to e5 and f6 to foil it.

Well, if your opponent does not want to be talked to,---then talk to him/her. What do you do to win? Give them a massage and a glass of wine? Oh yea, when I knock down a tournament, there will be all kinds of new rules just because of me. But I will win first. :)

My best showing at a school tournament was second place. I lost to a kid from another town that was barely, but clearly, better than me. Our match game I was able to predict his moves but felt I was always a step behind him as I couldn't do it within my timeframe. Had a chance to practice with him since we qualified for the next tournament and I could beat him a few times, but he kept improving, too.
