Not going to happen. Too late for that. what is needed is a strong united Europe. A Europe where Germany spends at least 2% of GDP on military. Same with FRANCE. The UK, Italy, ect. Must have strong military and work together. Russia is only getting started. No more non-European refugees. That only weakens Europe. I'd like to see Germany and France take the lead in Europe. Tell the USA how they can help but the US can't lead Europe.
@ramjet7470

@@TheBandit7613 Well said and I agree with you. The US cannot lead Europe nor should it attempt to. Sovereignty among nations is not compatible with globalism and the concept of one world government. The EU is a good example of why this will never work. There is no individualism when everyone of every nation is thrown into the same tin can and rattled around relentlessly as rocks by power hungry elitists. Europe continually and historically births its own problems but refuses to admit them much less address them.

That would be the reality in a perfect world. Unfortunatelly this isn't going to happen anytime soon as Russians are completely apolitical (or most of them) and have a complete sense of apathy towards what's going on. At the same time Putin's power is not going to be challenged anytime soon as the Wagner mutiny failed and the last opposition to the regime, a very imperialistic and militaristic opposition that was still allowed to exist, was purged. International organizations are obsolete as Russia and China corrupted them over the years.

Dream team! As a German, who's country had started two world wars, I feel incredible thankful that the allied nations managed to turn our country into a modern and thriving democracy (with all its edges and stones of course). Looking at this history, I wonder how Russia is going to develop in the future. Good point by Anna and Vlad in the last segment of this interview. Tim Snyder makes the point very compellingly that the precondition for Germany's positive transformation after the war was its total and utter defeat. This is why the West should now be doing all it can to ensure that Russia loses this war.

I wonder what thinkers were saying in 1945, about the probability of rehabilitating Germany. Or, should I say, the German people. Perhaps Germans were relieved when Hitler was dead and the war was over. I'm sure many Russians want today's war to be over. I won't refer to Putin's demise. Regime change was not a goal of mine in 2000, when I visited Russia.
@julianbrelsford

Germany's two attempts to conquer all of its neighbors failed and became disastrous for Germany. But the German people over-all were willing to support or tolerate both attempts. To me it's clear that the people of Russia in general, during the last 1 ½ years, have been somewhere between supporting and tolerating their government's attempts to rule over the former USSR by conquest (some are actively working against the war and they're a small minority). Will Russia need to collapse militarily twice in order to see a similar transformation? If Russia collapses once, will the West find a way to gently encourage them to rebuild as a state that's interdependent and cooperative with its neighbors, in similar fashion to the relationships that the Allies and Germany managed to build in the years following the Nazis' 1945 collapse?

@@TheFrewah That's a good point. Vlad made an excellent clip citing Googol where he says something like this "Rus is racing on a horse carriage alongside the rest of the world. Snow is falling, wind is blowing and everybody is wondering what's going on." Question is whether and when the carriage will stop and drop on the ground of reality.

There was already a core of democracy in educated Germans by the 1920's, if not sooner. This is lacking in Russia. Only the Russian people can turn things around and that, unfortunately is not on the horizon, though it is possible eventually. Most folks learn to justify what already exists at their given moment in history and do not think beyond.

I think Vlad is correct in that some western countries think turning back the clock to 2021 is desirable or realistic. At the same time there are many changes in progress which might not look very significant now but could turn out to be the first signs of something fundamental. One example is how countries that has traditionally been seen as the leaders of EU like France and Germany hasn't lived up to the expectations many had on them while some other countries has done the complete opposite. The shift in Sweden has been absolutely massive, we ended a 200 year period of being "neutral" to applying for Nato membership basically overnight, the previous government tried to stick to the usual "war-is-bad" narrative by first suggesting sending helmets but quickly folded due to massive public pressure. I could go on..

I found your channel, Anna, from a recommendation from Vlad a few months back. You both produce interesting and thoughtful content that is needed to combat Russian misinformation and propaganda. Thank you for what you do.

Anna, when you asked us a few days ago to guess where you were, I didn't even try. I only knew you weren't at my house. I hoped you were safe and having a fulfilling life. When you asked us yesterday who we thought you would be having a conversation with, you mentioned a philosopher, I had an idea. But what I was sure of is that it would be interesting and thought provoking. I thank you both, Anna and Vlad. I look forward to tomorrow.
