It's really horrible. I've experienced people not wanting me for most of my life as well, so I know how incredibly painful it is. We need to remember though, that Anna of Green Gables was set a long time ago, and attitudes were very different then. People could say things as a matter of fact, that today would seem really really awful, and sometimes might even be against the law!!!!! Things have changed SO MUCH in recent years, like how people talk about people, how they describe them, etc etc etc.

This is one of the best stories ever written in the world. Superb acting and writing! I'm 25 now, and my parents tell me I would watch this at 2 and 3 years old, completely silent and captivated by Anne and her story.

This was such a beautiful show for me to watch as a kid. I loved it! Never imagining shows like this would not come along later in my life. Anne was so much fun to watch. Marrilla a great actress and a perfect example of a strong woman during such different times. And Mathew, such a sweet man!

I remember watching this show in the early 90's when it was broadcast in America on the Disney Channel as a kid. Megan Follows performance as Anne breaks my heart. She was perfectly casted.

@@nailju28 I like that because it shows that Anne was mistreated before she was finally adopted. Other things that I don't like is that she ruined Billy's Andrews' character. In the books, he's falling for Anne. Also, Mr. Phillips was always a jerk in the book and here and in the book. However, he is not super abusive or prejudice.

In the Netflix version, Aunt Josephine and Mr. Phillips are revealed as gay, which wouldn't have stood in the original, and the Mr. Phillips actor is terrible.

Wonderful through out the series to see marilla at first hard and strict to gradually let her guard down and be more relaxed, happy to have Anne in her life. I cried throughout these series.

The book describes Marilla as wiry, but I couldn't imagine her any different than how Colleen portrays her. Sturdy, deadpan, and that low monotone that somehow conveys so much personality. She's so much like my grandmother and I love it.

This miniseries was one of the best family series EVER created! This cast, and behind the scenes crew made you literally feel like you were transported in time to Avonlea! I wore out my first VHS of this series and have it on DVD! Timeless classic that I can literally watch every day! Loved Megan Follows as Anne and Hannah Endicott as the younger Anne! Both captured L. M. Montgomery's character to perfection!!! Plus Kevin Sullivan and his crew know how to capture a era in time to make you feel like you're actually watching a travel through time!!!!

You know how on the wagon ride from the station Anne lists her "faults" and includes "My eyes are green?" Well, I'm pretty sure Megan Follows's eyes are brown, and they never did anything to disguise that.

I won't watch any other version of AoGG, I got super sick in the at 9 yrs 90s and missed school for most of Oct and some of Nov; I rem my mom yelling from another room (mid afternoon) if I was doing my make up work and I just monotoned "yeah" she came in and saw me on couch w/ hw on table w/ only one question answered and she was just "It's 2pm, you've seen all of your Disney shows, all of your PBS and Nick, Unsolved Myseries is over, and Little House doesn't begin for 30 min, 12-2 is hw hours, what new could you possibly found?!" and I only said "They're re-airing Anne of Green Gables show and Diana is drunk, I'm busy and can't do hw now, but if you're going back in the garage, can you please grab me another Coke?" w/o even removing my eyes from the TV

It wasn't unusual to take in orphans for work, they were both older and needed help on the farm. Marilla was being practical. And for the record, many foster parents take in kids for the same reason and are much nastier than Marilla.

The lack of this story being retold with such generosity of spirit where the main character IS a boy is an egregious example of SEX DISCRIMINATION! I'm not suggesting that the Anne version should be discarded, but that a "Robert" version (or whatever) be added! Couldn't the world use a Robert version in addition to Anne?
