Anne Preven is a Grammy and Academy Award nominated American songwriter, musician, and record producer. As a member of the alternative rock band Ednaswap, she co-wrote "Torn" which was covered by Lise Sørensen (Danish),

All right! This version was the real deal. I'm no folkie, but the raw, heartfelt emotion heard here blows away the contrived grunge pop of Imbruglia. A bottom-line great song played in its purest form.

Yes agree boss given the way the intention that shes the original singer of this Wonderful song written by herself too... But the depth meaning that turned to pain effect,,, good listener should be affected by her ... And this is Ann the original one. She hurts me bad me emotionally when I heard this cover version originally because she perfectly and sadly express out the depth meaning of this. Ann herself is totally a legend artist for me.

@doomaflatchie Any coffee shop and hear poetry like this? I think not. It isn't just the chords and the melody, it's the grit, the honesty, the depth here that makes this superior to the pop version.
@zemog31112 жыл бұрын
I used to watch them in Costa Mesa, CA @ 1995 and I was told that they received around $15,000 for the rights. Pure hearsay, but I don't think anyone would give away the rights to a song that is at the top of their set list for free.
@itowedin12 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I'm not disputing what you say, however I remember reading in an interview with Anne in The Stranger magazine in Seattle that they were not paid for it. They were touring the west coast in support of Wonderland Park in 1999. Imbruglia's version was released in 97. The tour was cut short if I remember due to an unfortunate lack of interest.
@HarryHaller196312 жыл бұрын
Maybe they got $15k up front, but the royalties roll in every time the song is played or performed. Listen to the Howard Stern interview, and you'll hear that Anne and Scott are quite happy with all the money they made from licensing the song.

@@koolpebble Some sources say Preven wrote it in 1991 but Sorensen released the first Danish recording in 1993. Afterwards in 1994/5 Preven released a recording. Don't know how accurate that is.

+diegoserranoleal Not really. Lis did record it first. But Anne and the other members of Ednaswap wrote it Lis's version was a Danish translation from Ednaswap's demo.
@Thefubeca127 жыл бұрын
The writer Anne Preven is in Ednaswap and their lead singer, the one singing this version. Yes Lis recorded it first in Danish and called it Burned. The technicalities are interesting for this song, who knew? The Natalie Imbruglia version holds some crazy records. Torn is the most played song in the US in 1998 and throughout the 90's. In the UK, it is the most played song from 1997-1998 and 19th most played 2001-2010, it is recognized as the most played song in Australia since the radio records begin. I'd like to see the royalties checks Ednaswap got for this song.
