during the last few weeks of her life my wife and I listened to this many times together, it still makes me sad and happy but I'm pleased we shared this time as one.

My condolences. I played this piece per my father's request at his funeral last November. I can't even play it all these months later because it brings back vivid, painful memories of watching him during the dying process and playing it for him in the days before his passing. I am hopeful I'll be able to play this again one day without soul-crushing grief interfering because it is indeed very beautiful.

Bravo.

This performance is so beautiful it brought me to tears, I recently read the story behind the music and this really feels like the inner struggle Thais had with her self over choosing God or the man she was starting to love

Shame on "Sucks" Obviously NOT a musician. She is one of the greatest violinists of our time and perhaps in generations beyond us. Every violinist makes some faces when they are impassioned and surely Ann Sophie is. Perhaps this piece reminds her of her deceased husband. Who knows but stop criticizing. You should play so well.

I’ve heard TM played many time by many virtuosos, all moving and excellent. However, this woman is the only one who has a touch, timbre, tone, whatever it is totally destroys me. I feel like I have understood her struggle, torment, and her beautiful conversation and she awaits my helpless response...

Bravo, Bravo, Bravo. Can't think of anyone but her who could get away with an interpretation as sentimental as this one without going overboard. Anne-Sophie Mutter - beyond words. You ARE music.
@mysweetharmony10 жыл бұрын
What is great about her vibrato is that she changes it. So many violinists only have one type of vibrato, but Annie knows that you can change a mood if you change the vibrato. A slower vibrato can sound more romantic or sad, for instance. I love that she varied it all the way through the piece and told a wonderful story.
@forloveofchrist10 жыл бұрын
I am 37 years old and just started learning the violin 2 1/2 months ago. I wish it were something I desired 30 years ago. I've always loved the sound and said one day I would give it try. Well it is every bit as difficult as I suspected but I truly love it and desire with all my heart to be able to play it well. I'd give about anything but my soul to be able to play like this talented lady. For those of you who know the Lord please pray for a supernatural intervention on my behalf. Or at least be in agreement with me. I am practicing quite diligently but I feel that without the Lord's help I will never be great. Thank you
@forloveofchrist10 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!
@bonanzagrade10 жыл бұрын
You chose the right piece to practice while looking for supernatural intervention for this is the music which accompanied Thais' spiritual epiphany. It is laced throughtout the third act of the opera. It has something to do with awakening...you'd be best advised to catch the show when it comes to town. They don't do it all that often though.
@gertjanmarkus811410 жыл бұрын
Either your lord wants you to play, in which case you don't have to pray, or he does not want you to play...in which case praying is futile. We all know the lord makes no mistakes in his grand plan....so....just play and stop worrying!

She's amazing, however, I feel her rendition is a little muddy for me. Now, if you are a musician, you know what I am talking about. I am not saying her playing is dirty like mud, but the tone of her interpretation is not clean. It's too slidey. I like this piece to be in the middle, not too clean, not too muddy.

A most extraordinarily unique heavenly interpretation! A Perfect rendition, so expressive with that rich sweet sound with such control, gorgeous inner phrases. I loved how you slowed it down in so many spots as you nursed each and every note to it's finest quality. Of all of the finest violinists of the past sixty or more years, I like yours the best!!

Anna-Sophie Mutter, internationally renowned virtuosa, her technical mastery of the instrument is unquestionable. But her style of expression on this piece? She plays it bold and passionate when it requires great tenderness. She uses a brilliant tone where a warm, intimate tone would be appropriate. Instead of suggesting meditation, it made me feel restless. All wrong for this piece.

Magnificent composition. Magnificent performance. Sidebar: I was Market Square in Pittsburgh in the early summer evening. There was a young woman playing her violin for whatever she could get from those sitting at tables in the square. She was close by and I listened and quickly realized how great a player she was. I then asked if she knew Meditation on Thais. I sat there and watched her for awhile and then closed my eyes. The sounds coming from her instrument transported me to another state of consciousness for a few seconds. In that brief window the sound, the performer and myself became as one. That's the only way I can describe it. When she finished I remember looking into her eyes and saying thank you SO much. I gave her what for me at the time was a large tip in gratitude. She belonged in a symphony orchestra. I hope she has since found regular employment since I heard her. Wow!!
