This is how we use the torch to anneal our metal. Annealing loosens up the molecules of the metal, making it softer, more malleable (bendy).
We do this by heating our metal to medium red, quench it, then place it in the pickling solution (sodium bisulfate acid) to clean off the firescale.
The brass gets a copper plate on it, called copperscale.
Then the metal gets scrubbed with a steel brush to remove the dullness and to generally clean it off. Now it's clean, and ready to be sawn or drilled into.
