Greetings from Finland, the home of Tuska metal festival. Anneke had a great acoustic show there in 2017 with this & many other great songs. Her voice is one of a kind & you can always tell that's her even without visual cues.

I would absolutely suggest either “travel”, “waking hour” or “on most surfaces” by the gathering for more Anneke! ❤️

She also does a fantastic acoustic version of Iron Maiden's "Wasted Years". To paraphrase I Am What I Am, she is her own special creation. 💜

I love Annekes voice with the fury of a thousand suns. I have to agree with Mike. It's not "better" but it is equally good, on a different field. Love that you folks branched out to some more obscure songs by her, I cant get enough of those darned Dutch women. damned if Floor, Simone and Anneke dont take up 3 of my top 5 all time ( and I've been around a while ;p)) spots. She is just SO unique in her sound that it pains the soul sometimes to hear her. Cheers, you two lovelies make every day better with your contributions :-)

Hey G&M, thanks for that. Loved your reaction to our 'force of nature metal tinkerbell songbird who stole the voice of an angel'! Nice comparisons there, with the regret versus longing. Ye, Chris is unique and top tier, so same references hold for me. But Anneke makes everything her own, so comparing is like ... not needed. I'm sure you'll find more of what Anneke did express and trigger feelings in her signature ways. I can only recommend to dig through more of her massive repertoire. Still hope you'll one day check 'Travel', 'Waking Hour' or 'On Most Surfaces' from the TG25 concert. More different Anneke styles to uncover with those three, own written tracks and amazing performances that show a different Anneke compared to the 'versions' you already checked. If you fancy more acoustics, she has done so, so many gorgeous acoustic tours, sets and also albums: with Danny Cavanagh (doing Anathema and The Gathering tracks all acoustic, but including a wonderful version of Massive Attakck's 'Teardrop'), Lorrainville ('4 years' is one of her most wonderful own songs imo), The Gentle Storm's 'gentle' side of their double album she performed in an intimate tour together with Arjen (Ayreon) Lucassen, her breathtaking tour and album with Arstidir (check their rendition of Fauré's 'Pavane' live for dutch TV), or her concerts and album 'Symphonised'. The Gatherings most emotional and Floydy concert tour 'A Sound Relief' may also interest you. That entire concert 'reads' like an emotional diary dancing on Floydy melodic metal vibes. Enjoy!

Anneke can be a great folk artist, indie pop artist and vocally can do Jazz as well. Her solo career does much of this indie pop and folk style music. In some of her Gathering music like "Rescue me" and others she gets Jazzy vocally.

I feel that her most 'jazzy' vocal performance with a TG song was with 'A Life All Mine' (also a great track btw): kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZeqkJqFf9hmmrM

@@midnight-2021 Odd. Here's a separate vid of the song itself, instead of to the concert: kzbin.info/www/bejne/anfXqZt7q758opY Btw, in 'Golden Grounds', same concert, she has that same 'jazzy' vocal style. Hmm ... As a trained jazz singer and the way she developed her skills through the decades, she could make a terrific headliner at North Sea Jazz, next to Beth Hart, for instance, if it would ever come to it that she'd do some jazzy stuff again. She covered so many genres already. Time for jazz Annie!?

@@grungegrumpy3585 finding myself listening to more older music then I have in the past. Way too much of today's modern pop, country, rock and metal as well are using way too much computer software in their music, especially with this robotic pitch correction technology called autotune. This overuse of autotune makes vocalists in my opinion sound way too robotic. Much rather hear real and raw vocals. Having vocal flaws in my opinion is perfectly human and natural and this autotune of correcting these natural flaws hurts more then helps in my opinion since it takes the human element out of the singing giving it in my opinion a robotic effect.
