I can say one thing about nukes. I was stationed on MCBH Kaneohe during the Hawaii Nuclear Missile crisis. I woke up to an amber alert saying “ICBM Missile inbound, seek shelter immediately this is NOT A DRILL.” I have never been more terrified in my entire life, I knew we had less than 40 minutes until being vaporized. We couldn’t get calls out because of the cell towers, alarms were going off. I experienced so many emotions. I finally managed to get one call out to my father and I got his voicemail. It makes me emotional thinking about what I said but I left my father a message saying. “Hey dad, I know this won’t make any sense right now, there’s a missile coming for Hawaii. I just wanted to let you know that I love you so much, and please tell everyone how much I love them. Goodbye” I sat on a bench waiting for my doom, evaluating my life and coming to terms with my own mortality and death. Then we found out it was an “accident”. Everyone was ANGRY. I was upset because I felt cheated. I was forced to evaluate my life and be okay with all the good and bad choices I made, never seeing my loved ones again and I had to find my inner peace. Still to this day I feel somewhat cheated, but am incredibly grateful that I’m alive. The fear of Nukes is no joke, and I would never wish upon anyone to experience what I was forced too. Thank you for reading my story, I’ve only told my family this, but this interview made me feel like it was worth sharing with everyone.

Hey Shawn! Retired Air Force PJ here. Love your show and your choice of guests. Learn a-lot each episode. Wanted to add some info: Annie correctly stated than no ICBM OR SLBM can be recalled, however, each of these vehicles CAN be stopped mid flight. If there is an inadvertent launch or a vehicle malfunction after launch it can be detonated and brought down during boost phase. I've watched it happen at Vandenberg where we test launch the Minuteman III ICBM. Plus the warhead is not affected. One can drop a nuke on a nuke without detonating the first. Anyway, just info. Cheers brother.

This womens book is the most frightening scenario I've ever had the privilege of hearing. Her detail and research are unparalleled to anything else I've ever heard on this subject! This book will allow you a different perspective of God,family,friends, and humanity. This book is a life changer. There are days we go through the motions of life, and then there are days that offer a glimpse into this gift of life and how important God's mercy is for us!! Because we as people get in our own way, instead of getting out of his way., and allow his gifts to flourish. Unfortunately, we are all one misunderstanding away from not existing at all!! What I love most about the SRS is that he's such an honest guy, that if he doesn't know about something he genuinely says "I don't know". So many people not just in the podcast world, but in general, would generally bullshit and say something like "yeah, yeah" when they have no clue. Here, we get the actual "I don't know" which is SO INFORMATIVE because there are so many of us as viewers that also don't know.

Shaun I’m an Air Force veteran. Annie is interesting but mostly over dramatic with lots of inaccuracies. Good example is her hyperbole describing the “Black Book” it’s actually red and every missile control room, bomber cockpit and submarine has a copy of the same book. You were right it contains the play book for nuclear war and it doesn’t work unless the players know the play…not just the team captain. I flew bombers and we had to memorize the contents of the “black book” and all the scenarios as we had the same short time frame to respond to an attack. Obviously it’s way more complicated than Annie explains. She describes the worst most improbable scenario …a blind unannounced attack on the U.S. Believe me the President has many options in his book besides a massive counter attack. Also the President is not the only person who has the launch codes. There are backups in case the President can’t act including backup airborne command and control aircraft. Also we no longer sling megaton weapons at each other. With increased accuracy came a reduction in bomb yields. Very complicated ….not at all like Annie claims.

I have a hard time believing about 50% of what she says here. “…that’s not an opinion. They wouldn't have got to him in time and he this. Why not talk to your enemies and be "friends with them?" Shortly after stating, "we got rid of all of our bioweapons" .. I refuse to believe she somehow missed Project Paperclip. With the help of the Germans, 20 years after Paperclip...1957 to be exact, Lockheed and General Electric had rudimentary antigravity. By '64, they'd pretty much mastered it. That makes every moment of her nearly 4 hours here, a total lie. Nobody with real power cares about Stone Age nuclear weapons and, sadly, powerful people have used the public fear (that they created) to strike the fear of God into citizens, so they'll timidly form straight lines, and give over more and more autonomy.

@Skitdora20106 ай бұрын
We had to take public speaking every class every grade since middle school on (in upstate NY) after a study came out saying people feared public speaking worse than death and to decrease that fear they said they needed to focus on teaching it. Not only filling up to and not past your allotted time was graded (hurting fast talkers) but you lost points for "uh, um, mmm, like". By college some professors just assigned students to study a subject and present it the whole lecture, alone and then as a group. Teachers could spend only a small hand full of classes teaching. Maybe those were teachers who feared public speaking more than death.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that what shes saying is BS but she definitely isn't as knowledgeable on the topic as she thinks she is. A lot of what she says is simplified to the point of being misleading.

Tell you what. She's basically the expert to go to on what she speaks on. Interview subjects going back to OG project manhattan members. Who tf are you? Do YOU have multiple books written with Vanity Fair and Apple calling your work the most anticipated piece of literature awaiting to be put on shelves? Shut up. Her point is that nuclear war is not remotely an option, her point is that, "maybe pointing nuclear weapons at eachother, for the sole purpose of avoiding nuclear war, is no longer a viable strategy. Maybe it never was." That's it.

I can't escape the feeling that I'm listening to someone that has ZERO actual experience tell me a story about people that told it to her. That's all. Like fear porn. I guess she could describe anything in an award winning way, but honestly, this is way too serious to hear it from a NYT writer.

Absolutely, with out a doubt, the most riveted i have been watching/listening a podcast, the most horrifying horrendous details explained in a calm and eloquent way that makes it impossible to doubt or question the research. Great interview, I appreciate you leading and listening, i have to admit i was as confounded as you were, every pause i felt the heart in my stomach… thank you, great episode..

Who’s here at the end of 2024 after realizing we’re probably already involved in WWIII which is currently as close to nuclear holocaust as we’ve ever been?

Her body language changes when she’s asked certain questions that you can tell. She doesn’t know the answers to, but wants to sound like she does. Not that she doesn’t have some insight, but I think we all know that she does not know everything, only what she is being told.

@@martinezjames83not to mention, her book is based on FACTS! So fact check her lol not only that, ready here is the kicker, she literally says and explains everything in her book besides the facts in the book, her scenarios are all based on hypothetical thoughts that could possibly happen based off of the facts that she has learned by discussing them with the actual people who were a LARGE part of her “findings”.
