“Writing ‘Requiem for a Private War’ for the film ‘A Private War’ has not only given me an opportunity to honour Marie Colvin, but also aims to amplify the ‘truth to power’ message she fought all her life to convey to the world, regarding the atrocious consequences of warfare and it’s effects upon innocent civilian populations.” Annie Lennox

Annie has made us proud to be her fans. I hope she reads this. The music is beautiful and the lyrics are like only Annie can write and sing. Annie knew Marie, which makes this song extra special.

It is so hard not to take her songs personally. Ms. Lennox has a tendency to speak my pain. "Why do these cold stars burn so bright?" When all you have in life is pain and the memory of pain, the beauties of the day/night are like slaps in the face. I get this beautiful song because of my personal war with recovering from a decade of abuse as a child. Like hidden land mines, triggers are everywhere. I guess all this is to say that commiserate heartfully with war reporters, soldiers, and the civilians who are bystanders of their world being blown apart. I hurt. But the pain is used to understand others' pain. Can't quite say that it is worth it, yet. Understanding is in such scarce quantity, I'm glad to give it.

Please keep sharing. It will help others to care for their pain and so help others do the same.. You may never know how much it does help. But as you know, our wounds don't get better on their own. They need to be cared for to keep from festering and getting infected, where we can take our pain and hurt out on others or society, even ourselves. As we know, Marie was clearly suffering from PTSD but wasn't assessed and treated as the Times should have or given her non-combat assignments. I've worked with disabled combat veterans in sport settings. They know the adrenaline addiction and rage against oppression. We all need to redirect or channel that energy in other activities that can help us recover from our trauma. Reliving or reenacting traumatic events is part of it. "Healing is found in the blood of the wound!" cried ancient Greek Therapuetes. Not everyone can go there and should never be forced, as Jung warned. It has to come naturally. Our dreams can help. The great movie Good Will Hunting with Robin Williams and Matt Damon is an example of following a natural course of recovery as memories occur or triggered. Jung was out walking with a patient who had been beaten by her father as a child. When she dropped her coat, Jung picked it up a d began to tap it with his cane, causing her to scream for him to stop. The crux of it? "It's not your fault." In some ways I'm trying to heal my dad by working with veterans. He came back from Vietnam alcoholic and addicted to pain-killers and terribly abusive because of it. He refused to see a psychiatrist as my mom tried to get him to. So please keep sharing. It can help others to care for their pain. We all need to. Many Blessings

@Stan Current I think you are awesome. You hit the nail on the head.......many times. I mean, in particular, the reason I share is the hoping that at least one person needs to read what I've written. My personality is partly helpful. I want to infuse the best soul beauties into me. Since I was a kid, I've had a certain feeling about Vietnam. When I heard Alice in Chains' Rooster, I was agape. It sounds exactly how I feel about the war. Every man, woman, and child has my complete sympathy and empathy for being in that hell on Earth. I certainly will keep sharing and you, sir, keep striving towards The Mark of Perfection, your LORD SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST. You are a very good man and I thank you for talking to me.

Requiem for a Private War - Annie Lennox Why do these cold stars burn bright, all these cold stars? Why do these cold stars burn bright, all these cold stars? Bring it on Bring it on Bring it on Nothing will stop me Still the world keeps spinning around you Heaven knows we're drifting apart All the burning buildings surrounds you All the world is falling down All the world is falling down Bring it on Bring it on Bring it on Nothing will stop me Underneath the shooting stars Fireworks tearing us apart Tiny sparks and broken parts Bruised and bleeding broken hearts Hopelessness turned to despair Shattered glass lies everywhere Flying from the deadly blast Armageddon's come at last Bring it on Bring it on Bring it on Bring it on Bring it on Bring it on Bring it on Bring it on Bring it on Bring it on Bring it on Bring it on Bring it on ...

Wow, Annie’s truly showing me that she’s taking good care of her instrument and that pleases me to no end. If you listen, there’s a resonating quality to the way. Once again, hitting and holding those minor plaintive notes. I’d venture even better as time passes, much like Joni, minus the cigarettes (lol) but subtle nuanced depth. Contributing to a Rosemund Pike film about such a formidable woman. I could go on but I’m going to leave it there, amongst all that Power of our Women.

Annie Lennox has given us a most powerfully moving tribute to Marie Colvin in this great movie. It is probably due to her many years as an activist protesting oppressive government policies anywhere to keep them from killing innocent people to begin with. More of us need to do the same. It's going on 11 years now since Marie and French photojournalist Remi Ochlik were killed. Paul Conroy was nearly killed too, along with journalist Edith Bouvier (sp?) Please excuse my spelling. We need to remember them by supporting freedom of the press and speak out as well against any fascist ideologies. Marie was getting her boots when she was killed by Bashir's murderous loyalists. His wife was off getting a new pair of stilletos. Thank You Annie Lennox.
