No matter what the intent of this song, it had a major impact on me. My mom passed away in 1995. Her lung cancer spread to her brain. Once in her brain it was hard for her to communicate. So the "no more I love you's" and "language is leaving me" lyrics totally captured what I was feeling as my mom's cancer took away her ability to tell me she loved me. I played the song over and over in 1995-96 and cried every time. If I ever got to meet Annie Lennox, I'd thank her for this song. And in case I never get to meet her... Annie Lennox, thank you for this song.

Two years ago, my beloved dog Scooter died, my cat Millie died, my partner of 12 years died of cancer, and my Dad died suddenly -- and I was let go from my job after 18 years. I played this song and the video endlessly - crying like I never cried before. Grieving and sobbing as if the tears would flow forever. "My aching heart would bleed for you to see" I vowed to myself No More "I Love You's". At the time, I thought I would never let myself love again - never, ever say it again. Annie's voice, the song, the video were with me through countless hours of emotional suffering and I thank God for it. I've moved on with my life and I do say "I Love You". This video will be a part of my memorial service when it's time for me to go. I will always, always remember Annie's voice, the song, the visuals that carried me during the worst part of my life. I love you Annie Lennox. Always, Kenny

This song is not about loss of lover or depression. This about going through dementia. Her grand mother. One of the first things to go is ability to express love. As memory leaves, so do the words. How quickly a song can take you back to a certain memory, down to who you were with, what they were wearing. I lost my father in 2021 and it was one of the hardest days of my life. I miss him so much and I think about him everyday. My Dad loved all different types of music and this song reminds me of when we used to drive 9 hours to Orlando, FL to go see family during the summer. He had this briefcase that was for holding cassette tapes, and a lot of the time he would ask me to grab him one, but sometimes he would let me choose. I took my cassette tape out of my cassette player and put in Annie Lennox and I remember him looking confused and then he just had a big smile on his face and he laughed. We listened to side A and B of the cassette and just hearing this song today, it brought me right back to that day. Love you and miss you Pops.

Thanks - I didn't realise it was a cover! I do find her version more devastatingly moving, personally, though she uses much of the arrangement of the original. I think the powers that be had a serious problem with artists singing about war and other serious social issues. Highly talented creative artists sing about many different subjects, so they had to go. As long as the masses are ignorant and shallow we won't start trying to fix problems in the world and changing their carefully crafted system. Songs about sex and love are safe. So we hear them over and over again . Thinking about love and sex a lot could also bring more babies into the system.

That's a lovely story, Zadrach Ginuni. When my wife left me many years ago I started thinking a lot about my parents who were divorced and lonely and who I only saw very rarely because I was living abroad. I decided to write them both a long letter thanking them for being such good parents and telling them how much I loved them. Somehow I never found a way of saying all the things I wanted to say to their faces so I decided to do it in a letter. I have now lost both of them and it is agony, but I know that they both know how much I loved them. You just never know when you will lose the people you love.

The ascending bridge Lennox adds to her version elevates what was already a great song into something truly special.

This song is unbelievable! When you're going through a break up and you can't eat or sleep or even think straight and acting like a lunatic and that amazing day comes after god knows how long, you're actually getting over it, this song rings so true! No more demons anymore! Beautiful

My thinking The individual lost out But then again Perhaps it was time And Someone better awaits You lost nothing

Too true, I lost my "true love", but then found a new freedom without her. I felt guilty at first and then realized I found a new better version of myself without her. Funny thing I've always liked this song, never knew how much it would reflect a part of my life. Thank You Annie
