Guitarist Roland Gresham gave me my first gig in 1996 in a dive bar in my college town of Murfreesboro, TN. Everyone in our musical community adored him, sought out his shows each Sunday night (they were long gigs 8pm - 1am...Roland didn't want to stop) and tipped the jar. In return, Roland introduced many of us to live jazz for the first time and remembered our names each week. With Wes Montgomery thumb-strum style, he was a local treasure and changed the course of my life forever, as well as many of my friends who he let sit in and they their hand at performing jazz.
