The verbal confirmation of what was already in my mind always a pleasure. The acknowledgement of our recognition only further substantiates his talent, at least, it does to me.

A 1979 Tarkovsky film. And he's right, anyone who's seen it will think of it during Annihilation.

I was so glad too! I knew it was inspired by Stalker after watching it.

Saw this film early today. Man, trying to remember it all feels like a dream. He definitely made it feel unnatural and unworldly in a strange and beautiful way. Have to go for another viewing:)

Even though it was taken down from (most) cinemas, you can tell that Annihilation is picking up momentum thanks to the word of mouth. Saw it on Netflix, but Im picking up this scifi-gem on bluray - this belongs in my movie library.

I saw this movie three times in theaters before it went out, and honestly I wish I would've seen it a fourth. There's so much to pick up on and think about even after viewing - it's definitely become one of my favorites. Can't wait to buy it on blu-ray.

What Alex Garland said about audiences being underestimated with cinema and television now-a-days is proving how curious and intelligent viewers are showing themselves to be is absolutely correct with shows like FX's Legion slowly but surely gaining a following and many others. Audiences aren't the brainless stimuli craving animals that many people may think. There is a growing following for films like The Babadook, Annihilation, Arrival, Ex-Machina, etc. There is still this incorrect perception that people are only interested in surface level content which couldn't be further away from the truth. Even successful mainstream hits like Inception is a good indication (and yes there is action in it, but that's not the main hook that had people talking afterwards) that audiences LOVE to ponder about thought provoking concepts. It's all about the presentation that appeals to different crowds. The more open minded film lovers will flock to certain properties for sure, but given a strong word of mouth, you'll be surprised how many of those casual filmgoers that we call "close minded" will actually enjoy films like Annihilation. Just give it time. I think we'll get there sooner than later where films like these will start becoming bigger financial hits.

This man is a brilliant filmmaker that is very articulate in relaying his ideas to the audience. So glad he doesn't think the audience are all idiots!

such a shame that it isn't getting a theatrical release in a lot of places, it is a gorgeous film. Also, does anyone remember that awful Lost in Space movie from the early '00's? this movie is kind of that last bit with the time bubble, but better. Or maybe what Jane did after dumping Thor.

It was released straight to netflix here... I wish i saw it in cinemas as the soundtrack would be make the movie so much more intense on a big sound system

why does he tilt his head like that? and why is his head shaking when he does it? Reminds me about that explanation Blair Brown gave in Fringe about the observers...

Dude, that's exactly my thought, the whole movie is about that fucking point. Has to be, the very last graphics with those eerie DMT crackles and spiraling fractals gave it away, but only people with an ego death psychedelic experience will get that and thus get the real point of the movie, love it!

I FEEL SORRY FOR NATALIE AND THE CAST THAT HAD TO BE PUT THROUGH THIS. THERE IS JUST NO DEPTH TO IT,BAD EDITING,BORING STORY LINE AND JUST VERY DISMAL AND HORRIFIC BLAND SHOTS THROUGH OUT THE FILM . NATALIE AND JENNIFER DESERVED TO BE IN A SCI FI FILM THAT WAS AS INTENSE AS THE ORIGINAL BLADERUNNER,ALIEN,ICHI THE KILLER,AND THE MATRIX ON AND ON. MOVIES THAT MADE A TRUE SCI FI IMPACT. THIS FILM LOOKS LIKE A FIRST YEAR NOVICE DIRECTOR AND WRITER WITH A 70,000$ FOR BUDGET FOR TV. I CANT GET OVER HOW BLAND IT LOOKS COMPARED TO WHAT A TRUE INTENSE OUT SIDE OF THE BOX DIRECTOR COULD HAVE WROTE AND DIRECTED A FILM THAT WAS TRULY WAS CAPTIVATING FROM BEGINNING TO END. ANNIHILATION IS STALE.... AND THAT'S A SHAME HAVING NATALIE AND JENNIFER IN A SUCH LAME STORY LINE WITH NO REAL ACTING FROM TWO GREAT ACTRESSES THAT NEEDED A DIFFERENT SCI FI FEEL ALL TOGETHER AND A DIRECTOR TO PUSH THEM TO GET THE BEST OUT OF THEM..... ONCE AGAIN NATALIE AND JENNIFER YOU DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER. THEN SOMETHING THAT LOOKED LIKE A LATE NIGHT PUBLIC ACCESS 2$ MOVIE... I HATE BEING HARD ON CREATIVE PEOPLE FOR WHAT ALL IT TAKES TO MAKE A MOVIE BUT THIS WAS JUST EMBARRASSING I'M SAD TO SAY.....
