You don't actually click on his ark to get the items. You'll get a message from him when your ship is close to his ark to pick up the items. When your ship is in range he'll say something like "are you ready?" and then you click 'Ok' under his message window in the top right to accept the items.

I'm assuming that you're experiencing FPS lag and not internet lag. The cause for FPS lag would be your graphics card. All I can suggest is you go through every single graphics setting that Anno has (which is a lot if I remember) and set them to the lowest possible setting. Especially settings like antianalysing and vsync. If that doesn't help let me know and I'll think of something else.

Sadly in the end I couldn't help that much, my knowledge of computers is only the basics. But in future I'll keep all that stuff in messages rather than the comments

There is no in game tutorial other then playing the campaign which very slightly tells you about the game. It's mostly "there is a problem, take this to fix it" and fails to teach you how to deal with things yourself. Pretty much the reason I made a tutorial series here on youtube.

Which mission? Not quite sure what problem you're having (or if you're even asking for help). Can you be more specific about it?

It sounds like your graphics card can't handle the game and is causing it to crash. If you give me as much information on the problem as possible I'll see if I can find you a solution. For now I would recommend using the lowest graphics settings to see if it helps any.

What's your Graphics card and RAM? And did you try lowering the graphic settings?

It's not a bad game... It's just a bit grindy for an economical focused island builder with the daily quests and constant votes. But it's been out for quite a while now, I reckon you can get it for 75% off when the next steam sale comes around.
