I've decided to take a break from watches but would still like to upload videos relating to mental health and general well being. Hopefully lots of content on its way. Thanks for all of your support it means a lot. Cheers Alan

I’ve been there too when it comes to buying things to fill in a gap. I do enjoy my watches as well and don’t allow myself to own more than 3. I appreciate you sharing. Staying subscribed.

Excited for the new content Al. I'll certainly be sticking around. I believe we all subscribed far more because of your character than for the watches themselves. Take care mate :)

You are a good man. Sorry to hear about your down times. It appears that you are chasing pleasure not happiness. That’s why you are down. The happiness is felt when you become important for others. I would start helping others, like needy people in the community, refugees from Middle East or Ukraine, women from Iran etc…

Hey, good for you for trying to improve and recognizing when something becomes a bit of a problem. I've been in the same boat and have been slowing down with my collecting lately for the same reason. It's easy to get out of hand. Hope the watches still give you some joy if you decide to keep and maintain your collection. Anyway, all the best!

Hi Alan. Sorry to hear that things are not quite right at the moment. As a fellow musician and as someone who has been through the hell of long term depression I completely get it. Putting yourself out there is a massive step. If you go over to my channel I have my email address. Feel free to contact me and even if you need to chat....even to vent to a stranger it can be helpful. Really hate to see people struggle having been through it for more than 20 years. Meds don't work. Life changes...sometimes too quickly and all of a sudden you wonder why you think the way you do. Switching mindset is the thing. Get well and remember a lot of fellow enthusiasts are always there. John :)

Well done for speaking out about this, mental health is so important. I’ve had ‘Gear Acquisition Syndrome’ for years, whether its watches, camera lenses, guitars, … to distract myself. Look forward to upcoming videos and the new direction.

I appreciate your candidness and can absolutely relate with the obsessiveness of watch collecting! I've found it to be all-consuming at times. There's always the next one, the next one... the next one. Endless research and scrolling... A new purchase only scratches the itch for a little while until my wandering eye starts roaming again. I keep chasing the completely illogical notion that someday I will find the ONE watch that will completely satisfy me to point that I'd be willing to sell all the others. The sad fact is that the perfect watch simply doesn't exist and never will. There's always something that's newer and/or better. It's an emotionally driven hobby and rational thinking can get completely thrown out the window! Knowing that I'm not alone makes the "affliction" easier to bear (I say that PARTIALLY in jest). 😊 At the end of the day, watch collecting is a self-centered pursuit. That is why my need for "MORE" is never satisfied. It's because I'm seeking something outside of myself to make me feel better and the relief it brings me is only fleeting. As you touched upon, a spiritual path is the solution. Thanks so very much for your videos and I wish you continued good health!

Thanks for this wonderful reply! It absolutely hits the nail on the head! This is exactly how I've been feeling and, like you say, I definitely feel that the spiritual path is the solution and looking within as opposed to looking outside of us. Thanks again and best wishes to you too, namaste 🙏👍

🙏 Little positives accumulate and mature into having a huge impact. Making the bed in the morning, having cold showers (not just for the physical benefit but to reinforce your mental resilience towards doing something uncomfortable), reducing monthly expenditure on subscriptions that aren't needed, doing exercise and challenging yourself. I like to do solo hikes, being outside of my comfort zone and pushing myself mentally and physically means other things that are hard in life become easier. Also, set a reminder in your calender on the 31st of December for 1 years time with tangible goals and aspirations for the year and measure progress throughout the year (read x number of books, visit certain places, climb snowdon or ben nevis etc). Remember to still enjoy watches and don't feel hard on yourself when you buy a watch you dont need, just be aware and measured. Peace brother.

Love this mate thank you! It also reminded me of that feeling of building mental resilience during the cold shower experiment and that was the most positive take away when doing that! Also nice to have a reminder about the "setting small goals" impact. A family member talked about that a few years ago and I now realise I forgot to try it! Everything you said makes complete sense! Thanks again 🙏👍

This video really spoke to me. I tend to hop from one obsession to another as a form of keeping myself mentally and emotionally occupied. To share my 2 cents, I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with having a love or passion for material things. But for me, I think attaining happiness/ peacefulness will be a complicated endeavor and will probably involve cultivating several habits and behaviors. The habits that lead to a strong mind and body are a good place to start. Eating whole foods, enjoying junk food, drugs, and alcohol in moderation, pushing myself through physical discomfort, meditating, reading and learning about things, managing stress properly, etc. Then there are things which are less straight forward... having the experiences I want to have before I die (which will involve conquering some fears). Honing my crafts and skills. Connecting to others and building relationships. Practicing some form of service and giving back to others (definitely something I neglect, unfortunately). Finding and savoring those moments where I genuinely feel grateful for all that I have. I think these are the things that really lead to a lasting sense of fulfillment. Anyway, I think your channel will continue to be great regardless of what direction you decide to take with it. Cheers!

Thank you so much for this detailed response! I think that every single point that you made is fantastic advice and I will endeavour to make sure I put them all in place for myself! I do already eat mostly whole foods and follow a low carb regime and find that really helps. I try to enjoy junk food now and again but do worry it will throw me off track. I do need to learn to relax about that. Meditation is something I really need to do more of! I've been 10 months now with no alcohol whatsoever but would like to ease that back in slightly and enjoy that. Definitely need to manage my stress levels more! It really does sound like you're on a great path and it's a path I'm fully on board with! Thank you and I'll be talking about all of this on my upcoming videos 🙏👍

Thanks for sharing this with us. Watch addiction is no joke, it takes over your world. Being a watch reviewer (3 years now) has been challenging and I’ve considered quitting plenty of times. The perfect watch doesn’t exist for people like us, we are always chasing the next high. I wish you the best of luck man!
