I was offered a bunch of aluminum parts that were black anodized. Also, the parts had a lot of tapped holes that had the anodize coating in them. I bought a quart of drain cleaner that was mostly sodium hydroxide, and I can tell you, it worked amazingly fast. It even removed the anodize from the tapped holes. When each part was stripped of the anodize, I dunked them in a pan filled with water and household cleaning vinegar to neutralize the drain cleaner. I then rinsed the parts with clean water. My motivation for removing the anodize is to get a better price for the aluminum at the scrap yard. For an $8 bottle of drain cleaner and an hour of my time, the payback will be worth it as these parts are thick blocks with some weight to them.

That powder coat is gonna hold more heat in then anodizing
@davidunderwood36055 жыл бұрын
I tell you that the reason they anodized the sink is becouse it only effects heat dissipation by a fraction of a percentage point. However the powder coating will retain a lot of heat which can damage electronics quickly. This i speak to as a professional of both electronics and and electro platting in past professions.

Yes, absolutely. Plastics are massive insulators, which is why you would never see powder coat on a heat sink. Terrible idea, but great way to burn up your electronics!

do you have any suggestions on how to dip small aluminum parts? like what do I use to dip and remove, any particular hangers or ropes? Also, how do you store the water / lye combo after use? I have a 5 gallon bucket, would that work? thanks!

This is the second video I have watched on how to remove anodization. First one didnt show the finished product and I didnt trust it at all. Now this video shows a bit more of a completed job but I'm still scared to try it. I need my aluminum to look exactly like aluminum. With NO hint of the previous color. Thank for the vid bro.

@jeremybrannon70778 жыл бұрын
Easy off can remove light anodizing, but is very bad on lungs and can etch aluminum easier. Not best method.
@bummobile7 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Brannon If easy off will etch easier then onecwoukd assume it would remove the anodized layer easier as any way you look at it you are simply doing a full etch when you remove the anodized layer from the product? am I incorrect in my thinking? I ask because I am interested in full removal of anodizing on some things and simply etching others. what is the difference?
