Dear Reader George...This is all very beautiful, but I cannot figure out the context. If vespers are said separately (which is the case here in Ottawa) the reader simply reads Psalm 103. When would this setting be used? Thanks....Stephan

Yes, Psalm 103 is typically read, but on major feast days in the Byzantine tradition, it is normal to chant the last 10 verses in what is called the Anoixandaria. It is very beautiful and melismatic, with each chanted verse being separated by a laud to the Holy Trinity. There are a few different adaptations of the Anoixandaria, but it is typically chanted in Pl.4th mode, and the most commonly used composition is by Theodoros Phokaus.

Really only saved for occasions such as this 8 hour vigil. Enjoy. Would love to see you at the Cathedral at some point!
