As a musician just trying to get traction online with my work, I found this conversation really insightful.

Even apart from the technological aspect (which is brilliant) Anomalie is one of the most interesting jazz pianists working today. His harmonic sense and use of voice leading and passing chords is SO SLIPPERY.

Awesome to see Anomalie on here! On another note, I get clipping on these recordings, even turned way down and on my 2 different headphones. Just me or my phone? Edit: distortion with my iPad too. It’s the right channel…

I was wondering if Charles had a musical analysis video of Anomalie but instead I found this and I’m so glad I did ❤️ this was amazing thank you so much! I got my degree in music 10 years ago. And soon after I had to stop performing and practicing because of some health issues. I’m finally coming back to it, and the amount of resources that are available today compared to 2012 is like, walking through a time machine. Having something like this when I was in college would have been mind blowing.

I’m so glad I stumbled upon this, and even more hyped to learn about the technical side of touring and the intricacies of production. 10/10 would watch again

It's interesting to hear you talk about the mentality of "if it's predetermined, it's not good" in jazz, because I come from the world of Classical music, where it's been basically the reverse. The mentality there is often that if everything isn't precisely calculated and written down ahead of time, it can't be good, which I find really stupid. I think/hope that this is starting to loosen up a little bit with advances in Historically Informed Performance, because in that sphere, improvisation is now widely acknowledged to have been an integral part of music performance and composition in earlier times (especially Baroque and Renaissance), and also due to performers such as Gabriela Montero, who incorporates improvisation in Classical (and other) styles into her concerts.

I'm a big, big fan of Anomalie. It's just the fact that I love to produce music on my computer and also love to play jazz acoustic at the same time and he like kind of combines those two. Is there any information on when he is going to do a concert in Berlin? I would love to listen to him live!🔥
