In Cornwall, officers aboard Searcher board a suspicious yacht and receive an angry welcome. In Dover customs officers searching under a truck find an illegal immigrant hiding dangerously on the engine. And in Bristol officers receive an anonymous tip off about two cocaine smugglers arriving from Amsterdam.
In Gatwick and Bristol Airports in England customs agents check baggage and travellers to uphold allowances and prevent illicit activity and substances from entering the UK.

I get where you're coming from, but it still makes sense to be disappointed. Clean travelers are a dime a dozen, out of a flight of 150 passengers there might only be one or two who underdeclared some goods they bought abroad, or forgot some weed in their pocket, or whatever. The real deliberate smugglers are even rarer. So when they spend 15-20 minutes interviewing and searching somebody, it means a few things. It might mean their instincts are wrong, so they let an actual smuggler through who looked "cleaner". It might mean that the suspicious traveler was a decoy for somebody else on the flight who managed to get through because of them. Or it could even mean that the officer wasn't able to find drugs, contraband, or figure out the real purpose of their visit in the time they had. Lots of these end with "yeah, something's not quite right, but we can't put our finger on it so we have to let them through."

if you want to smuggle something odds are plausible you might get away with it the first time, or maybe even the first five times, but sooner or later greed catches up to you and you get caught. for most people, knowing that there's a risk they get stopped is enough to deter them from trying, for the rest... they get caught eventually... maybe not a big deal if you bring 10 extra cartons of cigarettes, but for those smuggling drugs that 1/5th chance of getting many years in prison... doesn't even matter if they get away with it the first times, the money isn't worth the time they get in the end.

Immigration: Are these bags yours? Passenger: These two are mine. This is my girlfriend's bag. Immigration: Why did you pick up her bag? WTF?!? What kind of a stupid f***ing question is that? THAT looks suspicious? Couples pick up each other's bags all the time when traveling. AND after all that bullsh!t, they were clean and the immigration officer was disappointed that they were clean! Customs and Immigration can turn anything into suspicious behavior. If you carry too much cash, you must have gotten that cash through illegal means and they want proof that you got from a bank. Too little cash means you're poor and are trying to work in the country illegally.

grabbing your girl's bags off the belt is fine, but everyone are responsible for their own luggage, so if you bring her bag through customs without having her along, it is suspicious. Basically, if you have someone else's bag, they have to be with you, or you have to give them the bag so they can take it through themselves.

I wonder why people attempt to smuggle at points that have border patrols and customs inspectors. Why not just use a boat to get people close to the shore, then off-load them into a smaller boat (like a local fisherman who is in cahoots and not suspicious), then have them swim for shore from that smaller, local boat, and just walk up onto the beach in the night and meet a waiting car. Surely there are smugglers and illegal immigrants who do business that way? There are miles of coastline. Not all of it can always be patrolled. Make a deal with someone with a fishing boat or something. Seems easy and more likely to be successful. Where's the catch?
@thesteelrodent1796
@thesteelrodent1796 9 ай бұрын
in Denmark that's how most smuggled goods come in, supposedly, especially drugs - in small boats that try to sneak onto shore. There's a Danish documentary about the patrols that go up and down the west coast of Jylland to catch them, and they show how the smugglers will use the old German bunkers as drop-off points etc. When you're a nation surrounded by water, boat smugglers are definitely a major concern, but since the coast guard can go for weeks without catching anyone, it doesn't work well for TV

I've watched a few of these videos now and I can't stand the attitude of most of the officers. They get all excited about possible being able to bust someone, and act all bummed out when they don't find anything. Like, you just detained and searched an innocent person for God knows how long, possibly even cost them a lot of money, and you don't even apologize? You just whine about it being "anti-climactic".
@owtena

Yes, because any one small catch can form a link to a much bigger operation. And smuggling operations don't just involve drugs or cigarettes, they'll more than likely involve people trafficking too. They get excited because each catch can mean you potentially find a string to pull to unravel something bigger, and potentially save lives.

Thekheumiler. Of all the vids I have watched all of the agents were polite and affable. Some of the flack and rude behaviors they receive …..the agents maintained decorum in spite of the angry attitude they receive from idiots who are willfully breaking the law. Texas > Chicago > Frankfurt > Amsterdam > London is not only a sus flight plan, it's also way more expensive than doing Dallas > Frankfurt > London and takes twice as long, and with a 12 hour flight across the Atlantic, no normal person would voluntarily want to add more legs onto their trip, but they never seem to ask why they went such an absurd route. Probably because they assumed they were crims before stopping them
