The most surreal, beautiful things can happen just by someone opening their heart for you. Joonpal closed his heart, because he thought everyone else did the same to him. He looked so miserable in the beginning, and now he's playing, jumping around, cuddling, eating like there's nothing else in the world...And all that just because someone gave him a chance.

My cat is a lot like him Joonpal, Cupid is usually all over me when I'm around and sometimes I can hear him calling for me when I leave for work. Thankfully he has a kitty friend so he'll be okay.

my cats the same way, and always has been! when i first got her at the shelter, i left the room to ask my stepmom what she thought of the kitten and when i came back in our helper said as soon as i left, she’d begun to paw and cry at the window! now at home, every time im not in the room with her she paws and cries at the door and the second im in, she runs to me and paws and licks at me, and lays on me whenever she’s able! cats are much more attached to their owners than people think.

My cat is just like him! In the mornings when I stay home from school, I'll hear her cry out alot. She doesn't realize someone else is in the house lol. I'll call out her name an then I'll get a cute little meow and hear her little paws patter to my room. She then just meows and purrs at me while kneading at me. Dude, when I was sick, my parents told me now to touch my cat. I ignored her, but I still fed her. She was waiting for me, at that time. Finally, when I met her again, she rubbed against me. That made me cry, tbh. Even that I was sick, I tried to touch her. And guess what? I was just fine -_-

Joonpal was diagnosed with nasal lymphoma in October 2022. Last news I was able to get he was doing chemotherapy once a week and was doing ok. This year he'll be 17 years old, so let's hope for the best!

I once had to go abroad for a week, which meant I had to leave my cat behind (left him in the care of a cat sitter). Throughout my time away he was apparently crying every single day and night, and wouldn't eat like he normally would. He only ate one pack of wet food a day (he usually eats 4 packs). When I returned and went to pick him up, as soon as he recognised me, he started meowing so loud and constantly. He was in the cat carrier when I was taking him back home on the public transport, and people were looking at me annoyed, because he wouldn't be quiet lmao. As soon as I got home and opened his carrier he instantly ran onto my lap and wouldn't stop headbutting me, and rubbing his whole body on me. I couldn't help but cry. He wouldn't leave my side for a month after. That was a year ago. He's back to his usual self now tho, but still enjoys it when I'm home instead of at work (this quarantine is working in his favour lol).

iirc, in the first video, the vet did say that the owner kept telling him she was really really sick. He was in the middle of helping her find someone to take care of the cat. Looks like it was way more urgent than expected.

Yeah cuz animals trust us immediately completely until you show they shouldnt and even then it takes alot. Ive even seen a cat video of when the people in the house played a video of its late owner on a phone by him he watched for a bit with big eyes and then just collapsed and layed the top of its head onto the phone. The cat is not afraid of moving out, is afraid of being abandoned again. Poor cat, try to carry him in your own arms to the vet or take him out like dogs to a garden or something. Nature itself always heals broken hearts, show him what freedom his

It's a bit dangerous to carry him like this to the vet, the cat might panic because of going out alone and attack the owner severely in blind fear. And I'm sure the cat doesn't want to hurt her but if it panics it might. Maybe carrying rightly wrapped in a blanket is a good compromise, so that the cat can't move but it's not a carrier that's directly tied to its trauma.

@@Noelciaaa I think so, perhaps if they need to transport him again they could put a harness and leash on him + a towel wrapped around that's he's used to the smell of. He'll have to go to the vet again at some point of course so that would probably be the best choice. Either that or try to make the carrier into a cozy space that's just part of his home, make it out to be like a cat bed with treats and catnip and blankets inside until he likes going in there

I moved 1 too many times. My cat quit eating and became anorexic. Cats are sensitive to things and this is why you never let a cat go longer than 3 days without eating! It doesnt happen to dogs. Not esting causes a chemical reaction in thei liver and it makes them nauseous. So its a loop .. depression then nausea. My cat needed a feeding tube into her tummy and 4x a day I had to squish special food down that tube to feed her for 5 weeks before she would start eating again. So anorexia is serious.

Miranda Brooks The condition you are speaking of is called Fatty liver disease ( hepatic lipidosis) It’s a condition often brought upon by stress. The stress causes the cat to stop eating which then causes the body to start mobilizing fat stores to supply the body with energy. Only with cats the body is designed to utilize protein ( cats are obligate carnivores) when utilizing fats instead of protein some of the fat gets trapped in the liver. The excess fatty deposits cause the liver to fail which in turn causes nausea and vomiting. The treatment is to reduce stress, and get the cat back to feeding. A feeding tube is usually utilized in these cases until the cat feels well enough to eat on its own. Medicines are also given to support the liver, reduce the nausea and vomiting, and fluids are given to reverse the dehydration. Stress is the usual cause but this condition does have other causes diabetes also play a part with some cats. This kitty cause was defiantly stress related! As soon as the stress was reduced and feeds started he got a whole lot better fast!

Yes cats get very depressed when abandoned . You can see lots of such cases when you visit shelters because lots abandoned cats refuse to eat in shelter . My cat was a stray and he follows me everywhere just like Joonpal . And he is so afraid of going out of the house . There was one time I carried him out , he was so scared that he peed on me .

Once I rescued a cat. Every day I go to the college by bus, and he was always there, by my stop. He was soooo skinny, but a lady Said he has an owner, so I thought he was just sick or something like that. Every single day I would pet him and he followed me to college, but he was too afraid to go inside. He was always so skinny and he never goes inside his house, it was like he was abandoned, so one day me and a friend of mine just picked him up and took him to the vet. He made exams and the doctor said he probably didn't ate anything in the last days, so he was getting skinnier and skinnier. We bought his supplements and I took him home. He ate and I gave him a bath, he was so gentle, didn't bite or anything! Purring 24/7! But, as soon as night hit, he started vomiting, I thought he was just scared, but he kept vomiting and vomiting a lot. I took him to the clinic again and the doc said he should stay there for some days, that many food all at once... he wasn't addicted yet. After some time, he came back to my house. He was getting better and better

Joonpal wants to have owner all to himself after all the abandonment he went through. Maybe woman thought he needed company when she is not home with him. But this idea has not panned out like she thought. Joonpal was trying to bite the smaller female cat from jealousy. Maybe a few years later this issue has been resolved.

I have a feeling Joonpal did not like being in the shelter with all the other cats and that's why it took longer than normal to recover from the loss of his original owner. It seems once he was alone with his new human, he was able to relax more and open up to having another connection with a new owner and rebuild his confidence

Jass ' Yes! We have medication for depression in cats and dogs! It works very well. There is also medication for anxiety, plus things like natural treatments and aromatherapy. I had a dog with a horrible fear of thunderstorms. We have them bad where I live. I used a special vest on him for compression therapy. It works like a hug. When that did not help, I also had medication I could give to him if he needed it. It didn’t work every time, but certainly helped. It also helped during his last days before he had to be put down. He passed from complications of an autoimmune disorder. :(

This was very painful and hurt the poor cat and she stopped eating due to being so depressed from being thrown away like trash by her old owner. The shelter tried to help her but what she needed was to be loved and feel safe. So they had this lovely girl and her family take her to help her gain back the will to live. Ppl forget that all animals need love and have feelings.

I had a cat who suddenly started throwing up and stopped eating!! I tried everything, even medication!! He was just like this boy, who had been a healthy full weight, and became rail thin. He’s even a ginger!! But he’s long haired. That’s the only different. But he got so thin. It got to the point where I would cried every day watching him. The doctor even told me he found a small lump in his leg and in his blood work his white cells were up and that he thought he could have cancer, and to prepare for him to not make it. Then the next night, I was dreaming about him and shot right up in bed, because I realized that his eating started dropping off when two other cats came to live with us. COULD he actually have anxiety and depression from having two more cats in the house and eating with him after being alone? So immediately I got out of bed, got him some tuna, and because there was nothing to loose, offered it to him right then in my bedroom with no other cats around, just in case it was actually because of anxiety and depression, and just to see if it would work. Where it was quiet and the other cats would not be there. And IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM. HE IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO EAT!! Only a little, but he ate. So I started everyday, feeding him in my room, and only giving him treats with the other cats. And little by little, he eventually gained back all his weight. Oh and that bloodwork? He must have had a small cold or something and was anemic from the loss of food, and the little bump in his leg is a cyst. No big deal. He still eats in my room. But now he also eats with the other cats in the kitchen😂and my boy, named Biscuit, is very possessive of me. VERY possessive. Just like Joonpah is of her!! ❤️😻Did this boy go from being an only cat to suddenly being around all those other cats, eating with and eating around other cats?? Is that coupled with the loss of his old owner create to much anxiety and depression and that’s why he stopped? Then when he was by himself, why he started again?? You know, I have a feeling it really might be...

I'm so glad Biscuit got better! Brilliant observation on your part. I think Joonpal's decline was because he loved his first Mama dearly, and when she took herself and that love out of his life overnight, he simply couldn't cope with it. I don't know if he understood that she deserted him on purpose, or if it was just the desertion itself that triggered him, but that in & of itself was enough. If you add all of the new faces and the confusion and the pressure from all of that every day, it's no wonder that he just checked out the way he did. We have a hard enough time, in our position at the "top of the food chain", handling emotional upheaval: imagine what it must be like for a cat?

When he meowed while walking around her house, I don’t think he was meowing to her. He was calling for his old owner. My cat did this when she was rehomed to me. She walked into each room and meowed like she was looking for someone. That only lasted a day or so though them she realized she found her forever family and stopped looking for her old family ❤️
