So great for a dollar Alex! You have shown some pretty amazing finds over time, and I remember an album you shared a while back that was a big value on Discogs. The sleeve was demolished but the record was pristine. Procul Harum! I love the Live record you sent me Alex. I don’t have one Moody Blues on vinyl. That’s simply due to the fact that I got into them in the early 90s when I was switching to CDs. I have at least 6 albums. Big fan. Shaft! Incredible bargain! ✌️

Hey Alex- Holy Bargain Bins, Batman…😲 To get a prog-loaded pile like that for under $20??? Ya done good!! I know OF Horslips but not heard that album- I remember seeing a great many of those in the cut-out bins back in the day. I need more Nazareth 🤔👍 Enjoy those finds- heck, I know you will! Cheers-R

Thanks Richard! Listening to this Horslips now and it's nothing like I expected. Kind of just sounds like late 70s rock to me. Not bad, but not what I thought!

What a great haul. You can find most of the Moody Blues albums in the dollar bin which is kind of sad because it just shows how under appreciated they are compared to bands like King Crimson and Gentle Giant. Or maybe it speaks to how well their albums sold back in the day? I have never checked out Procol Harum but you are giving me reason to seek them out now. Great video!
@beerandvinyl9 күн бұрын
Thanks Jeff! They're everywhere, but what a great way to pick up most of a collection for super cheap! Procol Harum kind of falls into the same-ish boat of early, proto progressive, but more blue eyed soul influenced than psych moodies. Shine on Brightly and a Salty Dog are must haves. Also their live record with the Edmonton symphony orchestra is always a dollar hollar and strong!

Nice $1 pickups Alex. Among my favorites are Grand Hotel, 10 cc and Time Passages. You should checkout Al Stewart's early recordings such as Past,Present and Future and Modern Times, they are also excellent.

Hi Alex!!! Unless you got a wrapped record or with lots of source noise, those 18 records looks awesome..... and $1 each!!! That's what i call a Procol Harum and Moody Blues haul, don't know that much about their studio catalogue, but they seems to be a great addition to the collection. Yeah!! i remember the "Year of the Cat" from an old comp i think it's still around..... cheers and be well

Can't find $1 here, but $2 are still available. I would like to think I started the hate on Billy, but I know there are others out there who share my disdain for the Piano Man. That is a very clean copies of Procol, and all pretty good albums. I was going to say, the only 'Whoosh' I have is by Deep Purple..... I'm old enough I bought "Rubber Bullets" on 45. I actually have 'The Present' and yes, like many Moody covers, it is very cool. Thanks for the shout out! I actually like that album more than 'Hair of the Dog.' Yes, 'Year of the Cat' is very underrated. and 'Time Passages' is pretty good. I need to make a road trip to Columbus. Cheers!

I swear it wasn't directed AT you! I listed to Grand Hotel this morning and really liked it. 10cc was last night.. man. that was a wild record. Good ot hear on the Nazareth record.. i'll be diving into that soon enough. Thanks Steve!

I have gotten a number of wild records for great prices from there. Columbus stores know they are competing with each other, which helps people like me. Typically their used prices are VERY good. Do some more damage next time and take me with you!

The economics of Billy Joel would be interesting - you've got a lot of competing and contradictory factors here. He sold shedloads of albums, so you'd think scarcity wouldn't be a problem. On the other hand, he's the kind of artist who is beloved by multiple generations, so it's not like folks are giving the albums they have up. Then again, he sold most of his records in the CD era, so the later albums were predominantly not vinyl sales, but then on the other hand (that's 4 hands so far! I should be a Piano man), his generations aren't quite at the point where estate sales would be pushing his records into lower-end markets. 5 years from now you won't be able to move for copies of The Stranger filling up the racks. Of course, your local vinyl economy might be different from the Australian one, where it is much scarcer altogether. Apropos of less lofty thoughts, I actually dig a bit of ringwear. I like to call it provenance.
@beerandvinyl9 күн бұрын
I totally agree with this assessment! It's like a Fleetwood Mac situation. No scarcity but there are 16-24 year olds who absolutely love Billy. I feel like even as little as 5 years ago these were all $2-3 records.. not so much anymore. Provenance.. I'm going to use that! Cheers!

Nice job defending Billy Joel. He does take a lot of crap. Turnstiles is solid. Love that Moody Blues comp. I've had that for almost 50 years. Great songs!!! Agreed that Al Stewart is underappreciated. Good pickups Alex.

The Moody Blues' "The Present", from 1983, was the album after their great 1981 "Long Distance Voyager" album. It was largely a disappointment. I love the singles "Sitting At The Wheel" and "Blue World", but it was disappointing overall. They didn't bring "the songs" for that album. "Long Distance Voyager" was their last great album, but they had more great singles, until 1991. Some of those unreleased songs on "Caught Live + 5" are pretty good. I love "Long Summer Days". "This Is The Moody Blues" is one of the very best LP comps. I love the way the songs crossfade into each other.
