I was once sitting in a doctor’s office waiting area. A pharma drug rep walked in with coffees and treats for the office staff. It’s well known that there are huge incentives for doctors to prescribe specific meds (trips and getaways) People don’t talk about what medications they are on. I believe there are many people taking unnecessary medications…generating a ton of money for some. Huge scam…people spending money on drugs they really don’t need.

As a former registered nurse for 35 years I worked in a variety of medical settings. I really did not see people taking drugs they did not need. What I did see was the doctors in offices prescribing a certain brand of drug that the Pharma reps represented. The doctors were plyed with trips and various perks in return.

Two years ago, I replaced a 1978 water heater that had zero rust and worked just fine. You can't get homeowner insurance with a unit more than 7-10 years old, depending on carrier. One scam we have been discussing in my industry. Is the lack of replacement parts for battery powered tools. They claim that the cost of repair by a dealer would exceed the cost of the equipment. However, a whole lot of people know how to fix them themselves if they just could get a hold of replacement parts. It kinda falls into planned obsolescence.
@psychojoe3087
@psychojoe3087 8 ай бұрын
That's by design. I used to rebuild alternators, starters for cars and a lot of other things including tools because, as you said, you can no longer obtain the parts. It's rather aggravating at best. I still can occasionally manage to scavenge the parts but that's not the ideal way to repair things as these parts may fail in a short time

I am a woman of faith but I take no offence to this Nicole I actually agree with you. I’ve never been part of a church that enforced tithing so there was never pressure to donate so there are some churches or some denominations that don’t enforce the 10% tithing of the bible. Not sure why that poor lady was doing 15% (inflation 😂or different religion maybe) so I’m grateful I never felt pressure to financially support the church but I have huge issue with organised religion and the mega churches and ‘celebrity’ pastors hence I no longer go to church that and the BS ways they have never supported me at times when I most needed it 😢
@ros8986
@ros8986 Жыл бұрын
Tithing originally was contributing to a fund to support destitute people. Jesus said sell everything and give the money to the poor, not give it to a church so priests can get paid and they can hire a professional organist and choir director and professional lead singers for the choir.
@aaronwaddington1208
@aaronwaddington1208 Жыл бұрын
I am of the faith too. Religion has twisted what tithing really means. It doesn't have anything to do with giving money to a church. It's about offering help and support by helping others, tithing can be donating your time and effort such as mowing you elderly neighbor's grass, or maybe giving up some extra canned food or something to someone whose lost their job, tithing in no way has to be monetary.

Same. Organized religion, mega churches, pulpit pimps...I want no part of it. I'm a Christian and I am happy praying and studying the Bible. Christian churches in the US these days teach a LOT of things that are not biblical at all. I gave up trying to find one that actually follows the Bible rather than twisting and reinterpreting it. And these wealthy celebrity pulpit pimps? They're the ones Jesus warned us about. False teachers. Tithing is part of Old Testament laws to support the temple system; the priesthood...because they were not given any land, so they had no means to support themselves. We are not required to tithe under the New Testament. Giving is up to the individual. A lot of people cannot afford to give--they are struggling & should probably be the beneficiaries of giving, and guilting them in to giving money they cannot afford to give is just so wrong.
@limewater
@limewater Жыл бұрын
@@aaronwaddington1208 If you are specifically speaking about the Bible, then the tithe was explicitly established similar to a tax specifically to support the priests of the tribe of Levi, who were set aside to serve the L^rd and did not get share of the land like the other tribes. See Leviticus 27 and Numbers 18. I don't see scriptural mention of mowing grass, apart from, perhaps, a harvest where a tenth of the clipping are set aside. Nor do I see any mention of slinging cans at people. There is some stoning, though. In reality it does take money to maintain a staff and building and serve G^d and the community, assuming the church in question is doing those things.

I’m personally tired of the “bait and switch” scams. I’ve had this with car dealers and more recently a cell phone carrier. I absolutely HATE wasting my time only to be told something completely different than what was advertised. And yes I do read the fine print. I wasted an hour today at this cell phone carrier only to be told in a roundabout him hawing meandering way that I couldn’t get what was advertised because they didn’t actually offer it. The old me, “always be polite, be a nice girl” doormat has gone out the window and I simply walk out! I won’t be played with. 🤷‍♀️ I think too often we allow it trying to be nice!

Of course there was a smaller version available for more money and when I pointed out that this was bait and switch, their reaction was, "sue us." I hate planned obsolescence too, it doesn’t get round this issue, but I try to buy tech secondhand, it means these big corporations don’t get my money, I’m paying a lot less for these items, and yeah, it might mean they don’t last as long as a brand new one, but it’s so much better for the environment, and my bank account. I also keep tech until it’s completely unusable, I’ve only just replaced my laptop, I kept it for thirteen years, I’ve not yet had the ‘blue screen of death’, but it’s now so slow, it just can’t be used at all. I’m almost 50 though, and remember when appliances basically lasted decades, and were taken to repair shops before being discarded and replaced (tvs, vhs players, stereos, even hairdryers, radios, toasters, and kettles!), everything is so disposal now, no wonder the planet is f@*ked. I also remember queuing outside of venues for tickets, getting up early, and chatting with fellow fans, it was all part of the fun, booking fees were minimal, or even absent. Everything nowadays is just about squeezing every last penny from people 😕

Love your work Nicole! I agree with everything you said in this video. It is important that these scams are brought out into the light. Change starts with awareness, although I suspect things have gone too far and there is too much money and power involved for that to happen now. I follow another frugal minimalist who has said that we are at a crossroads where we have to make a choice between outsourcing everything and becoming slaves at the mercy of those with money and power, or to learn to do things for ourselves to maintain our independence and options. These days people outsource everything: buying groceries, cooking meals, minding children and pets, servicing cars, renovating homes, cleaning, making clothes, and maintaining gardens etc. This ties us into a vicious cycle of needing to work more and to take on larger debt to be able to afford it all which makes us feel we need to outsource more just to cope with it all.

I appreciate your video. It's easy to figure out when you think about the ways words are used. Remember it is always about the money and you are always just a customer. So, you are not a "patient" at the dentist or doctors - you are a paying customer. You are not a "parishioner" at a church - you are JUST a paying customer filling a seat. You are not a "voter" you are a tax payer - "a paying customer" who doesn't get to have a receipt to show where your tax money is going or control oversite to see if your vote was even counted. Once you figure out that in this life you are just a "customer" then you can take control of what is in your best interest. Stop believing the corporations/governments/religions care - because they don't. You are only a paying customer in this system.

Years ago I belonged to a church that did a "tithe trial." If you would consistently tithe for 3 months, and if your financial situation did not demonstrably improve over those 3 months, they would refund your tithe. Fair enough, I signed up. My situation did not improve, in fact it demonstrably worsened dramatically, and I got a full refund. But, the people whose situation did improve made video testimonials (advertisements) for the church. It was gambling, pure and simple, and the house always wins. The only way to not lose is to not play.

Once exception to food delivery is if you're sick and cannot have someone you know bring you food. I was traveling and tested positive for COVID while staying at a hotel w/o room service. Uber Eats and Doordash was my saving grace, and I tipped well because I've also done delivery back when it paid better. That said, most drivers don't see the true cost per mile for their vehicle or do the math before taking small orders at large distances, so the delivery company wins through exploitation.

100% correct on organized religion! In college (I am old, graduated 1983) a friend's single mom was a minister in a small, low income church in the Midwest she was given a house for free and a salary. She had a huge closet, looked like Tammy Faye Baker and dressed to the nines every Sunday while the deacon wore the same tired green polyester pantsuit, the congregation wasn't dressed up at all. She preached how they need to give more and more to fix this & that or whatever her excuse was. Her son justified their spending as representatives of the lord they must dress to impress for serving him or words to that effect.

Fortunately the church i was a part of actually did help people with the tithing money. My mom and i couldn't afford food and so the church helped out - several times. They even paid rent for a friend's sister who themselves hardly attended not did they pay tithing. Also, tithing isnt all there is to the 10%, as it would still be addressed to spending on food for the homeless. A church is just a room with rent.

How about the merchants who up-charge you as much as $2 ( American money) if you use your credit card to make a purchase? Shouldn’t the merchants just regard fees, which they must pay to the cc company, as a cost of doing business? Then you have those who DON’T take cash. I am so sick of being screwed as a consumer. Online shopping is a blessing for me. BTW- before online shopping really took off, and that was way back in the day, shoppers were not assessed a sales tax. Well, many states, if not all, mandated a sales tax for online shopping. Everyone wants our dollars!!

Nicole it started with the cell phone and the digital age/revolution. Upgrade, upgrade is the name of the game. They feeding on average persons desire to have the latest of everything and this economy now has the power to give anyone anything they want delivered directly to their door. This has never been possible until now.

I would LOVE to hear your study/take on what we call a "job" in America. Giving us hyped up numbers monthly to say the economy is improving, but is a "Job" 1) full-time hours a week (the only way we can break even with costs of living), 2) comes with healthcare benefits?, 3) provides paid time off for being sick (to not spread colds or virus against our control)? Jobs have taken a hit just like products - they don't last and are not quality investments any longer - especially with "At-Will" being passed (company can fire you for no reason if they want to). You're doing great!! Spread the words.

This is why I eat what I can grow or trade. No batteries required for a tomato or potato. I have learn that many vegetable seed packets contain seeds of biological or genetically engineered plants that can not reproduce. They do this so you have to buy more "Godzilla" or "Franken" seeds for next year. My strategy is to purchase real plants and remove the seeds for planting next season. This usually works with one exception. The typical potato available for sale in stores has been treated with chemicals that penetrate into the potato so it will last years on a shelf without rotting. If you try to plant one of these it will not grow. I now only use organic branded potatoes for future potato plants! This strategy is working.

I never understood how people pay so much for food (restaurant) delivery apps. If you need your food delivered why not just have groceries delivered from the grocery store? As someone who has a disability that causes severe pain, weakness and fatigue I understand it can be difficult to cook but there are simple meals such as tv dinners that just need to be microwaved, pot pies that you just stick in the oven, crock pot meals where you just dump in a few ingredients, etc. If you have groceries delivered you pay one delivery fee/tip for meals that last a week or so rather than a delivery fee and tip per meal. But it's not just the delivery fees, I feel that going out to eat these days in general is a scam. Quality has gone down immensely. The food is never worth the cost and I always regret it wishing I had just made something at home.

I think it is a sense of being in community - even if it is just someone coming to the door. It is the modern version of the neighbor that pops over to see if you're ok. Neighbours used to chat at the front of their houses or on the street or from a window for all to see and hear - community.

Could you imagine actually letting some stranger crackhead pickup your food and bring it to you? Fk that. I'll go get my own food from the person who prepared it. Infact Im about to go and pickup a pizza from a "real" fkin pizzeria. Not some bullshit cancerous fkin chain. Imagine having some shop for you and touch all your food, get all your chicken and meat warm, have it in their fkin car and then bring it to you? Yea...........ehh, no.

My mother's family is Catholic (I'm not at all). One of my aunt's had been going to the same church for decades. She is elderly and on Social Security so she couldn't always give as much as the church wanted. One day one of the priests came up to her after Mass and told her that if she wouldn't give the full 10% she wasn't welcome there anymore. Pretty sure the nuns in our family were rolling in their graves. If a religious organization is charging you to belong to their club, it's time to find new "friends". What's shocking is that planned obsolescence started in the 1920s.

I think you're100% right on all accounts. I'm a nonreligious single parent but I looked into the local Catholic school for my son because I heard it was a good school. They did offer a small scholarship if you couldn't afford the tuition but you had to become a full member of the church which required that you pay a certain amount of money each year and attend mass regularly. But the amount you had to pay to be a member was more than the scholarship! I don't understand how that was supposed to be helpful. Thankfully I found a much a better school nearby!

Girl, you are so so correct on organised religion. The reactions come from the people who realised suddenly they've been played and they do not like it. I haven't been to a show for years because of Ticketmaster. They are hateful and I'm just not doing it. Delivery apps, well I do use them once in a great while, but thats like a few times a year and I know and accept the pricing. More often I deal with the restaurant directly and even that's not that often.

You are 100% correct, especially on the topic of religion. Case in point; we live next to a former Catholic church, (now a Catholic "healing shrine"). We recently had some work done to the house, and the construction crew had to park their truck in the driveway, so we parked our cars on the far edge of the healing shrine's large and empty parking lot. In less than 3 hours, we received nastygrams taped to the windows threatening us to either pay for parking, or we would be towed. (Great neighbors, yeah). This just reinforced my long held belief that religious organizations only care about generating revenue, and don't give two shits about the actual gospel; "love thy neighbor", "do unto others", and such.

There are desk top fans that were manufactured in the 40's and 50's that still work today. Other appliances, like toasters, refrigerators, mixers, washing machines, etc. often still work. I have an electric shaver made in the 1960's that still works like a charm. I have to say though that it did have years where I didn't use it.

I just do not buy tools that need batteries, nor tools as digital scales for body or kitchen, I bought a new sewing machine totally mechanical no "computer" features, if I need appliances I try to find older models (although the seller is trying to convince you that they use more electricity). it is just became an hustle to buy things, all the "research" that we have to do not to get scammed, harmed ect. ,in last years I am trying to own as less as I can, objects became a burden.

Amen Nicole!! I sold appliances for 28 years and have personally seen the decline in reliability. Fridges are all trash these days and the prices are astronomical! There’s not a single brand I can honestly recommend. Meanwhile, I have a Jenn Air in my kitchen that is pushing 30 years now, I pat it everyday and tell it to keep up the good work. My true advice is don’t buy new unless you’re old one is broken and unrepairable.
