I remember reading an internet post many years from a 1989 Vanguard member about that hit. They were in the tunnel getting ready to come on and his stomach became a brick of lead when he heard that hit and the audience response because he was sure that Regiment had just scooped the title out from under them.

Listen at 4:54. That is corps staff yelling out. It is a perfect moment for this production. This is by far the best show that never won the gold. It's the best of the best and will always be remembered as the night that was stolen from PR. 2008 Spartacus is a moment in time and can't be taken away, ever. This night, in 89", was stolen from PR though, it will always be their masterwork. They took visual and 2 brass captions that night. They also introduced the wedge that season. It's a masterpiece. Secretly, I hummed this entire show years thereafter.

I see there is a lot more theatrical production now and not so many restrictions It's definitely different. But the thrill is still the same love love love watching all of them. Sorry but no marching band will ever thrill the audience like a drum corps does. Congratulations to everyone on the corps. Love you

Cavaliers 2002: Not the show America deserved after 9/11 per se, but the one we sure as HELL needed. It took marching perfection back to basics, proved that on-field simplicity done incredibly well beats messy complexity, and showed the absolute MACHO intensity of the rebuilding American people and their unified post-9/11 comeback. Perfection.

Marissa S F What’s wrong with letting girls be a part of the color guard? The only reason they’re all male color guards is because they didn’t let girls join but what’s wrong with letting them in? It’s both giving the Corp a bigger talent pool and letting more people enjoy the amazing experiences and opportunities that dci gives them. What’s wrong with that? Edit: plus without letting girls in color guard, almost all drum corps wouldn’t be able to fill all of the spots that they want to.

I would offer suggestions but I'm not knowledgable on decades ago DCI 😂 Though I might add that it would be cool to see Corp specific highlights. That is, highlights from Carolina Crown shows over the years or Blue Devils shows over the years etc.

My only real suggestion is Crown 2012, the closer hit with the trills before they make the cube.

Michael Webster any crown show from 2009 and on can make it on here in my opinion especially the more recent years, they play some difficulty stuff so clean! That's my opinion though

I will admit that some of the new stuff is genuinely unbelievably good. Tilt, Angels/Demons, Babylon, Relentless, Metamorph, all are incredibly good works of art. But I do agree with you that shows like Ink, Ghostlight, and Cabaret Voltaire shouldn't just be skyrocketed to 1st place cuz BD.

One thing I think has improved over the years is creativity with color Gaurd I really don’t pay attention to them much at all but before it was more generic and it just seems more creative all around

Being a guard member I have to say the skill set in a top world class guard today doesn’t even compare to one in the early days of dci. It’s a comply different activity not just band wise but also guard wise. I mean at 0:50 what they’re doing is literally just a basics exercise now a days. It’d be like doing a scale as the music for a show.
@skye8916
@skye8916 5 жыл бұрын
Also that basics exercise has many more complicated versions and what they’re doing is by far the easiest and they don’t even end it how you would normally do to end it now a days. They’re way of stopping it is also way easier.

Dont get me wrong, i love modern DCI, the props are sometimes annoying only if it gets in the way of the show too much such as players having to stop and constantly move the props but anyways, modern DCI can be great but 80’s and 90’s dci is a time i think we all want to go back to.

Melissa D. I played on a DCI Snareline late seventies--back when other women didn't. Were neither welcome nor encouraged. Sad. Fred Sanford of SCV, God rest his soul, introduced me to DCI. Would love to see corps go back to more the way it was back then.
