When I was a teenager my mother had an '89 740 Turbo wagon. Fantastic car. Her experience led me to buy a 1985 Volvo 240 DL sedan when I went off to college. One of my most favorite cars I've ever owned. She later replaced her 740 with a 940 sedan (non-turbo). Also an excellent car. I later replaced my 240 with a 940 Turbo sedan. I miss all 4 of those Volvos so much. This video was a nice trip down memory lane. It's shocking to me how much these old RWD Volvos now sell for. We paid under $3,000 for each of our Volvos and they were all as clean as this one with between 90k and 140k miles.

Very nice car! If you ever find one with a manual transmission those are even more rare. The cosmetic stuff on this car can all be easily fixed and/or reupholstered. Same with the odometer gears as well if those ever go bad. As for the blend door situation, I bet you the cables going to the switch are just a bit stiff from having sat for so many years. Some heavy duty silicone lubricant should help persuade them to start moving freely again. Same is true for the power antenna, unless the antenna mast is shot. Not sure about the hissing noise but my buddy Robert Spinner (aka. RobertDIY on KZbin) or David Bello would know what that is for sure. Both of them are long time Volvo enthusiasts. Yes it is an interference engine and yes that timing belt is absolutely due for replacement. Hope this helps!

All B230`s (redblock engine) are non-interference except for the 16 valves and the carbed B230K. I`m a swede and know a lot about these cars. I owned a 1985 740 GL myself. Feel free to ask anything about these cars or if you want anything swedish translated.

Just so you know the date part of the DOT code on the tire is the Build date of the tire. NOT the installation date.

37000 miles, that`s just under 6000 swedish miles = 60.000 kilometers. Has the car been stood somewhere for a long time considering the wear and tear someplaces?

I’d only spend that money on it if it was the M46 4 speed with overdrive manual transmission. That’s the only way to get that turbo to really run

Yeah no doubt that this car is more fun to drive the manual (with the little OD button on the shift knob) but the automatic here is actually pretty decent and makes this a good solid cruiser.

Disagree. Having owned a 744 Turbo with the M46 and now a 745 Turbo with the AW71, I prefer the automatic. The auto works really well with the boost.

@@davidgomez3737 IMO the Turbo is much more fun to drive. Particularly if you add stiffer sway bars and slightly turn up the boost.

Too bad the interior is so shabby, too much needed to make it a nice car.... The drivetrain is bulletproof, 37k miles or 200k miles, makes little difference.
