It's almost like the writers made a campy fictional comedy skit in just a few days for a medium that already necessarily involves suspension of disbelief, so they assumed anybody interested would already understand this basic universal theme of theater. Maybe it's related to the phenomenon of calling the character in the dad role "dad" and treating him like a dad. Idk I'm not a TV writer
